When you scroll down almost at the bottom it says it only works on OS5 units. So basically "screw you" to anyone else as far as the Avantgo people are concerned. Do OS5.X units outnumber non OS5.X units already ? Ah well, that's life I guess, grrr.

Don't bother with Avantgo anymore, Use Isilo

I tried it last night on my SJ33. It installed and operated fine. I was even able to use the "Use Card" feature in AG connect, which frees up RAM space. What I didn't like was the inability to increase/decrease font size, which you can do in the OS 4 version (the font sizes appear tiny and lo-res), also the newer version seems to run slower, and if you use the "Use Card" feature it runs even slower still. Also, in order to use the Card, you need to rename the Card category to "MS". To make a long story short, the OS 5 version works in OS 4, but the OS 4 version in better and more suited to OS 4, so I reinstalled the older version.

Isilo may end up being a better solution!

Was the jog dial ability to move between links & activate them functional as promised ? That's the one thing I'd love to have with Avantgo so that true one handed operation would be possible. I read your other comments but I could live with those things if jog dial support was what they were claiming.

I didn't spend any time using the jog dial when I tried out the newer version. Sorry! One thing which is nice, is the installation for either version is very easy, and you don't lose anything by trying the newer version, because your account is handled on the AvantGo server. Try it out and share your thoughts! : )

When I last tried the OS5 version on my OS4 device (couple of months ago), it worked, but the fonts looked terrible compared to the OS4 version of Avantgo. It's like you have the choice of:

OS4 version - low-res graphics with hi-res fonts
OS5 version - hi-res graphics with low-res fonts

I took your advice & gave it a try. It's a bit disconcerting to look at to be sure. But I didn't delete it right away & I think I'll give it a few days testing. The fonts are not great but I think I could get used to them. I agree with others who have mentioned it looks lo res when it comes to fonts. Changing the settings in the hi-res assistant doesn't make a difference.

Moving between links does work however! It can be a bit slow going with a page with tons of links but you can now read Avantgo pages without a stylus at all, a nice touch for true one-handed operation. Heck, now you can leave the cover closed too
.
One more thing that bothers me is the lack of sound feedback when scrolling with the jog dial. It was present on the old version so now it seems weird for it to be missing. The enhanced jog dial support may be enough to make me keep it, time will tell. :)

I don't even get hires graphics on my NR70. Anyone know a way around that or is it just my channels I have selected?

Many channels don't have images but a couple of my custom channels do show images. (on a SJ33)

Are those custom channels displaying the images in hires? I guess I could just try that myself.

They certainly seem to be hi-res, quite good looking screenshots of games, etc.

Well I had to give up the new Avantgo version, some pages didn't work at all with it for some reason. I really liked the jog dial link feature but it's not much good if some of your favorite pages won't work. :( At least reinstalling was painless.
