AvantGo, Inc. provides software and services that enable and enhance the use of Internet-based content and corporate intranets to mobile devices, including personal digital assistants and Internet-enabled phones. For the 9 months ended 9/30/02, revenues decreased 22% to $14.6M. Net loss fell 68% to $15.5M. Results reflect an overall downturn of the economy, reduction in sales and marketing expenses, and the absence a $2.0M write-off core technology.
I was just trying to find a stock chart site for AvantGo and came across this in a google search. Just food for thought.

SO, ....
Like, ummmm, Do You think that the Handstory corporation is a larger entity, than AvantGo's?
From what I've heard, AG could shrink a whole lot and still be a larger company with more corporate clients. - steady business.
What was the logic of your point?
I use both, myself, btw.

I use both, myself, btw. SO, ... Like, ummm, the logic of my point was that I recently switched to Handstory. Simply put, I was mentioning an alternative to AvantGo.
"HandStory Suite has been honored in the "Best Products of 2002 Awards" announced at the Consumer Electronic Show and in Handheld Computing magazine issue 6.0."
As a user, you know it has a great clip feature: see a picture or text you want? Just copy it, click on the Handstory icon, choose your settings, and it's on your PDA at next HotSync.
With Handstory, I can do everything I was doing with AvantGo, and more.
Handstory is a divsion of Namo Interactive. In addition to the critically acclaimed Handstory, they have one of the top visual page editors, and in-browser authoring tool with over 10 million users.
I haven't compared financials, and that wasn't the intent of my post. Let's face it. Many of us buy Palm apps from "one-man" shops. However, Handstory does operate under a different business model than AvantGo. Whereas AvantGo may have to start charging for its clippings, this isn't something that Handstory needs to mess with. However, as stated above, my point was to simply mention an alternative.

Can you just "set and forget" on Handstory, like you can on Avantgo? You know, so that I can just choose what sites I want updated whenever I hotsync, and handstory does the rest? Or do you have to manualy select the sites everytime you go in?

Or do you have to manualy select the sites everytime you go in? Currently you can set clips to auto update once per day. Hopefully they'll give more flexibility so you can auto update more frequently (e.g., every hour). Of course, it's just a couple of clicks to tell it to manually update all of your clips (or you can pick and choose) whenever you want. Actually, I'm about to head to the airport, so I'll update everything before I leave for my on-board reading pleasure.

I use Plucker.
iSilo to replace AvantGo (set on the pc to update everything at 6am 7am 5pm and 18pm) no more dependant on the AvantGo server, no size restrictions (everything stays on my PC and the content goes to the memory stick), everything is done on my own PC.
The only drawback is that I have to sync on my PC or have the full iSilo setup with settings on the other PC.
I also have PocketLink on my memory stick in case I need to browse the web.
Hm

You can do the same things with Plucker. I just like it because it's free.. ;)

My fault, I thought you were responding to >this< thread which is about the corporate health of avantgo. I was only confused because the only valid mention of other companies in this thread would be to campare their relative corporate health.
sorry.

Well, don't forget that AvantGo was just recently purchased by Sybase. So I doubt they will be disappearing anytime soon.
For those that have used the other options listed here, is one faster than the other as far as pulling updates?

Plucker goes directly to the site to pull the pages. Then it parses them. The important thing to remember is that Plucker does not download the files when you sync. It does it separately and then places a .pdb file in your install directory. This work well for scheduling. For instance, I have pages I set to be downloaded at 5am everyday (my daily channels) and others that I set to be downloaded every Monday at 5am (my weekly channels). The only problem is tha tyou use interactive pages like My Yahoo, etc.
I am a former Avant Go user who go tired of th timeouts and disconnects during my sync.
Haven't tried Plucker yet, but I like it's price and phylosophy.
When you say schedulling is it a seperate program that you can schedule to run or is it a program the is active all the time (taking up memory ...)
Also does Plucker handle cookies, can I put the pbd's automatically on the MS, is it HiRes+ (NRV70).

Same here, I needed more space and I like the idea of handling/controlling my own content.

At the moment I use Avantgo, dont have any time out probs, but would like a high res alternative that does the same thing what I use Avantgo for (updating new and TV webpages on a daily basis).
How can you do that with Handstory (I use that programm only for copying mails and webpages)

I use a gui called "Plucker Desktop" to manage Plucker. But there is still a command line interface. I just setup a scheduled job under Control Panel-->Shceuled Tasks on my WinXP system to schedule downloading of web sites for Plucker.
Cookies? No.
I have not been able to get the pages to go directly to the MS yet. I am not well versed on setting this up through Hot Sync manager.....
I am not sure about Hi-Res...You woul dhave to check their webpage.

I have a review of HandStory on PDA Avenue (http://www.pdaavenue.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1723) for those interested in the range of its capabilities and how it works.
I've come to appreciate the fact that HandStory doesn't need or use a dedicated conduit to sync to the card. Assuming that you want the data on the card, it saves the clips (or images, etc.) to the /Palm/Launcher/ directory through Hotsync's install conduit, then moves its files automatically to its own directory upon execution of the HandStory browser. This works great and requires no user intervention to move files around. Each clip/conversion can be set individually to go to RAM or the card. The entire process is a snap to set up. Everything can be started by right-clicking something.
