Upgrading from my Palm IIIc

I am planning to upgrade from my Palm IIIc. I thought I had made up my mind on a Sony T665. Then I went to CompUSA to look at one. They didn't have one on display, but they did have a NX70. So, as to not waste a trip, I checked it out. I really fell in love with it.

Any previous T665 users that went to a NX70? Which do you prefer? And I'm not familiar with the pros and cons of the Palm OS5. Is it able to use hacks? (I don't know if I can live without my middlecaps hack and McPhling.)

Any info is appreciated. And...any coupons or specials on the NX70? Where is the best deal?

I went from a IIIC to an NX70, and am very happy with it. There is an OS5 version of McPhling, and while I don't believe HackMaster will work, TealMaster - a hackmaster replacement - will. I've never used middlecaps, so I'm not sure of its compatibility.

Well, that is some good news. How is your battery life compared to Palm IIIc?

I haven't noticed much difference, though you'll read on these boards many complaints about NX70 power consumption. I use mine heavily, but I also leave it in the cradle when I'm at my desk, so it never runs down too far.

Both units are great! I just like the 665 'cause of the size. The NX has a lightning quick processor. I had a 3c but I couldn't get the memory I needed. Now, with my 665, storage and speed are seldom an issue. You'll enjoy your NX!

I test Middlecaps in my NX70V. I found it's not work. ;)

I also just went from a IIIc to an NX70v. About 3 weeks ago.

Best decision I have made in a long time.

Power consumption is almost identical.
I used my IIIc at the lowest brightness level and use my NX the same. I read A LOT of books on my palm devices. I can read for about the same length of time without needing a recharge.

I noticed in another thread, or possibly on another page. It was mentioned that the battery in the NX series gains most of its charge early in the process, the last 20 - 30% of the charge takes the longest.

I have noticed this to be true. So what this mean is when you are low, and in a hurry or whatever... you can charge for only about an hour and get about 70% or so back. This took a lot longer with the IIIc for me.

Not sure about the hacks you have used. Im using McPhling and love it. Most of my old hackmaster extentions arent compatible with OS5 even using TealMaster. But i havent had a hard time finding replacement options.

I think anyone used to using a IIIc will LOVE a new NX.
