HotSync Hangs

My NR70V has suddenly decided not to HotSync to my Win2k PC. Worked fine yesterday but, tonight, the PC shows the "Determining handheld configuration" and sits there for 5 minutes or so until I give up!

Not installed anything to Clie since yesterday - even run a backup to MS via BBVFS, done a hard reset and restored.

Anyone come across this before and found a simple fix?

Below is some possibe causes:

Over-Clocking

Corrupted app

Interfering app

Corrupted conduit or file on the desktop and HotSyncing keeps trying to sync the corrupted file to the Clie.

Look at the HotSync log for some clue. Temporarily empty the desktop HotSync Named backup folder.

There are many aproaches. Does it HotSync okay before you restore your files?

I have had occasions, fortunately not too many, where I had to nuke everything!

Tracked it down to some CD writing software on the PC - it had managed to corrupt itself and I removed it. Unfortunately it's removal routine also removed an important W2K component. Reinstalling the writer software and removing it straight away repaired it. Nothing to do with the Clie or any of its own applications at all!

This was after several hard resets and partial rebuilds of the Clie. HotSync would talk to a new Clie and restore to it, but then hung on any subsequent HotSync.

Strange behaviour from a strange source.
