Since there is only the beta version available now for use on the Clie, I have tried it and it does not work (bugs) - is there anything else out there similar?

I use Handango. I used to use Avantgo but dislked having to subscribe to channels, plus Handstory is also an e-book reader and image viewer. My 2c worth.

If you haven't tried Isilo, it'd be well worth your time. www.isilo.com

Has anyone tried RepliGo?  http://www.cerience.com/products/palm/index.htm

I haven't tried it myself, but was wondering if anyone has any input.

Yes, it's a very nice document viewer for the Clie and I love it. It's not an AvantGo replacement though, as it is entirely different application.

I personally found iSilo too confusing and convoluted to use. Mobibook was kind of nice and so is Handstory.

Thanks! Also, Larry, your advise was a real help! You helped me more than anyone. Thanks!

I have been using Plucker for quite some time now. It works fast and easy and I can control the spidering of the sites as well as "right-click" on a great deal of files on my PC and immediately convert them to Plucker.

I have moved on from Avantgo to iSilo, and don't plan on going back. But, Avantgo is now out of beta in case you were still interested in it.

Are you sure Avantgo is out of Betaa? I did not see that on their site, it just says "beta". Can you send the link from what you saw please? Thanks

Well, it did not work! After I downloaded that site for Avantgo I got " Insifficient device memory!" It does not make sense as I have nothing on this yet! Everyhting I try does not work, Icant even get MobiPocket to come up, it downloads but, I get no updates! Talk about being totally frustrated! I am about ready to sell this thing!

Hi Barb,

I am sorry your having so much frustration :(. Just to be clear, where do you get the Insufficient Device Memory?

How much RAM does your Clie have free?

How much memory is free on the card?

You can find this by using the pull down menu in the Clie or Standard launcher, and select INFO. Select SIZE in the bottom of the dialogue box. Then go to top of the dialogue box and select HANHELD, just below that is free space, what is the first number? Then go back to the top of the dialogue again and select CARD. What is the first number, example 112.5M of 237.8M?

This way we can ascertain that in fact you do have sufficient memory, okay?

I am a bit stumped at the moment, it's either you have memory or you don't kind of thing. From everything you have described, it should NOT be a problem.

I have 114 apps on my Clie, between what's in Flash ROM and on the memory stick, which also includes 40MB of MP3. My memory stick is close to being full if I use the purple 128MB. With my MS Pro 256MB, it shows 112MB free.

Do you see Mobipocket in Hot Sync conduits list ?
If no, exit hotsync and launch it again.

I suspect that you may not hv enough ram space left. Try deleting some program from your ram.

I'm confused.  iSilo looks like a document compression program but how does that replace avantgo?  Is there a way that it will update news and other channels automatically?  Or is it just a doc reader and if so, unnecessary for one who has WordSmith as I do?  Any help will be appreciated.

I pitched Avantgo for HandStory, and I've been very pleased with it. Namo is quick to update their scripts when sites change format, and even quicker to answer support emails. The document viewer isn't quite as sophisticated as iSilo, but overall the program does more--image capture is second to none--and is much easier to use. Unfortunately, the HandStory demo program is worthless for evaluating the full version's real capabilities.

Does HandStory put the articles on a memory stick without any additional software?  I may have to try it if so...

I use iSilo. It is a great program that makes website conversion a breeze. However, the main reason I prefer iSilo is that it has a command line converter for Solaris and Mac OS X machines. Those are the machines I have access to at work where I have internet access (don't have the net at home :( )

So you could schedule it to convert before you get up so that when you wake up in the morning or when you leave for work and/or school, you have freshly converted documents ready to read.

Well, I am doing better today! I finally got Avantgo to work plus Mobi Pocket! Now, if I coulo just get Sonic stage to work I'd be in heaven! I do not know why I get the message that the device destination is full! I deleted alot last night on my PC, I don't get it!
I must say this group is the BEST for help and general knowledge, I'm glad I found it!!

What are the best sites out there for the Clie & programs for it? The one I located called jimstips.com is fantastic!

Yes. It doesn't use a separate conduit or anything. It can sync its files directly to the card in /Palm/Launcher/, then moves them to its own directory when you next execute the app on the handheld. Very nice system that has proven perfectly reliable. To do a web page or a file, right click on it, select what you want to do with it, then the conversion box pops up to allow you to set it up as you wish: sync to card, hi res, compression, link depth, image resizing and/or cropping, etc. Very intuitive.

I use Mobipocket, it's an e-book (.prc and .pdb) reader and also has news that you check or uncheck to subscribe in the sync tool and configure to manual or automatic update that's it, no need to go to website to subscribe/unsubscribe like Avantgo. You can change font size and color and even background color. Mobipocket's publisher coverts txt and html files into prc files for reading.

It's a shame some knock Handstory as being useless, but I have had a lot of use out of it. I use the Handstory Icon in the system tray all the time time, as it comes in handy. Mobibook is another, all one needs to do is read the manual. BTW, it is a general statement not directed at anyone person.
