OK Guys, i'm a term further with my mathematics and i thought hey why not let my PDA help me (instead of going out and paying the same amount on some stupid calculator).

I need some software which can help me with Lineair Algebra (solving all kinds of stuff including matrixes) and Discrete Mathematics (chance, vector's and god knows what). Also it would be very nice to have something that can Integrate into both x and y and something that can plot graphs with two unknowns (x,y).

Anyone know anything? All that i've found is too simple :( (including easycalc which was most advanced i found, yet not advanced enough unfortunately).

Thanks a bunch!

Check out Power48. It's an HP scientific calc emulator. The author posts to this board and there are some threads here that discuss it. I donated to the development effort and downloaded the ARM native code which is still in the alpha stage of development. The program runs faster than the original calculator.

The only drawback is that you would have to be familliar with using that calc to get the functionality you want out of it. I would look for an online manual from HP or some other source to get up to speed on using it.

I too would suggest Power48 as it fits all of your requirements. I doubt there will ever be palm software that would compare to the symbolic math capabilities of the HP4X series of calculators. Even if such software was written I doubt it would come in one package nor would it have the userbase that the HP calculator has.

For power48 information go to www.mindspring.com/~hildinger/Power48/

If you do get Power48 go to www.hpcalc.org for programs and documentation.

I donated and got the ARM version as well. It is much faster than the original calculators. Finally, faster plots ;).

Good luck in your studies.

If you're looking for something like Matlab, check out LyME, it's free.

MuchOS, are trying to run the .90 Beta on an NX? The version that is on the authors web site does not run on the NX. The author is working on the NX (ARM processor) version now and will allow donators to use his alpha code. I just say it is impressive.

If you just want to see what the emulator is like I suggest you get the Sony NR emulator and load Power48 on it.

yeah the matlab thing is perfect i'll try it out right now!

if that fails i'll try power48 thing again, anyone got the same error as i got (bla bla bla file corrupt ?)

thanks all!

yeah that should be it then, do you have a link for me for the NR Emulator? I'm kinda new to the palm thing (only use Netfront and tgSSH so far oh yes and the agenda...)

The version available online will not work with OS5. You need the ARM native code.

Check out this thread for details:

This is what Power48 looks like on a CLIE...

Don't settle for anything less!

I am starting to use LyME, it appears to be powerful. I am like to use EasyCalc, which is easy to use and very powerful. I believe it does what the first poster was looking for.

Apples to oranges: What are the odds of seeing some sort of TI-89 emulator for the Palm OS? :D

That would be perfect for me but I doubt it will happen. I haven't heard of any of kind of TI emulator on palm whatsoever, let alone a powerful TI-89 emulator.

A Ti-83 or Ti-89 emulator would be a dream for me and many others. I am sure Texas Instruments would be very active in keeping this from hitting the net though.

There was a thread on this before, just search for it. Apparently, it is possible, but no one is working on it. And then, yes, TI would probably strike a project like that down. Why isn't HP doing that to the Power48 project?

HP allows the use of its ROM's now that they are out of the Scientific/Graphing calculator market. They have made the 48 ROM's available to the public.

Read more at www.hpcalc.org.

http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/3/38/38843.html

Someone created a TI-85 emulator for Psion5, and the author said that he would consider releasing the source code if anyone wanted to port it to PalmOS(!)

I love <a href="http://www.calerga.com/products/LyME/">LyME</a>. I got my degree in mathematics back in '92, and I only wish I'd had it then; it's the best thing for portable computation since the HP-48.

I'm an EE student and currently use a TI-89...I have my NX with me everywhere, but don't always have my calc.. do you have any comments about drawbacks with LyME?

I'm on my way to download it now...

Doesn't look too nice, but does everything my TI does (and more) and has a total price of $0,00.

Hi, I'm not at all in Math but have a look to this HP scripting calculator in Flashmedia...may be this is what you are looking for. It works fine on my clie!

look at the bottom of the page.

Don't forget to check if the professor will let you use your clie during tests (if he/she allows calculators at all).
And I always tell myself, the calculator is a tool. No you really shouldn't allow it to do integrals for you. What would you learn except how to punch buttons?
