I bought an NX80V at lunch today to replace my NZ90. (I know, a bit irresponsible since I only got the NZ in March, but what can I say.) It took me an hour to move everything over. I've been wandering around the office with a stupid grin ever since.

The hardware has everything on the NZ - size, price (400 Sing less), an amazingly beautiful minimalist interface, a camera capable of pictures almost as nice as the NZ (a couple of examples are available in a post I read on Clie Source this morning). I like the larger reset hole, the much, much better power switch, and the more intuitive placement and size of the capture and back buttons. The way the CF slot folds in if it isn't in use is also very nice.

I'm telling you, delerious. I loved the NR70V when I first got it, and I love this the same way. I never had that with the NZ, which was just a little too much ... well, a little too much of everything. Like jamming a laptop into your pocket.

The only two things that I can find to criticise at all are.

1) There's 16MB of unallocated ROM, but Jack Flash doesn't work to free it up. Maybe someone will hack into this treasure eventually.

2) Because the status bar is a ROM item, I can't make Photo Skin work. Any thoughts?

Also, the stylus is a little goofy, but I've been using third-party styli for a long time.

Other than that though, I love everything about this machine. It's finally the Clie I've been waiting for.

Big question since I have the NZ90 as wll

Biggest two things I hate about NZ90, is takes way too long to start up the cameram and the batterly life was horrible with camera

Please say it is much better with the NX80, also can you post some pics?

Also I did not know NX80 was out where did you get it?

Thanks

Camera startup is indeed faster. Two seconds vs around ten, on a side-by-side test I just this second did. I haven't tested battery life on the NX yet. I'll report back tomorrow. Note that there isn't a battery slot, so if you're taking hundreds of pictures this may be a problem.

Meanwhile, while it was a selling point when I bought the NZ, the 2MB has largely proven unnecessary for me. I've been shrinking down the canvas size to 640x480 for months - principally to minimise the time it takes to save to MS, which is what eats up the battery. So moving over to the NX80 is easy as pie.

On availability, I live in Singapore, which as you know from other posts has had it for a few days. Isn't it available in the states yet then?

Hi Singaporeans out there. Do you have any idea when is NX 73 coming out in Singapore?

i've got my new nx80 about 3 days ago.
everything looks so fine.

i can change the status bar with silkskinchange to use the mythomania factory "panthere" skin.

my problem now is the table tennis only, letters is unreadable because of the mess. also letters in exodus 3.

cf also works fine with my sandisk cf 1gb.

By any chance does this mean that you can reset it with the tip of the stylus? I had a stylus that did that once, it was nice.

Also, how's your screen doing in regards to the reports about defects and touch-sensitivity? Hope all is well.

Reporting back.

The battery is better than the NZ90. I haven't tried depleting it all the way down by taking 50 pictures or anything, but I will eventually. Meanwhile, for mundane usage (apps, MP3s), it's better.

The CAPTURE LIGHT is a bright light, not a flash. It gives you a little extra if it's dark, that's all. It's also targeting the video function, which obviously the flash on the NZ90 couldn't do.

The RESET HOLE is indeed large enough that you can reset with a stylus. I agree that's a nice feature - no fumbling around breaking your stylus in half trying to fix your PDA at *precisely* the worst possible time.

Also, it's just sa' damn PRETTY.

Here's a picture for you. You can see the resolution is pretty good.

I took about eight pictures in rapid succession. No impact on battery that I could discern. And it refreshed quickly, so I could take a new shot.

I'm a happy boy.

Aah, dang. It's too big to post. Nice, though. I can email it to you if you want. Shot of the Singapore River overlooking Kallang and a Tanjong Rhu housing development. Lots of detail. Nice.

Hi there, just wondering how you find the touch screen of the NX80. Does it require more pressure to activate the screen compared to previous models? I had to use more strength on the 80 compared to my NX70

you can post your photos in the gallery of Cliesource. Pictures in the galleries show immediately while the ones on the forum take 3-4 days for a moderator to approve b4 it's shown on the thread.

Hey jmcasey88, how was the video? I saw a video taken by the nx73v and it was very grainy compared to the nx70v. Is it worse for the nx80v? and do you know why it does that? why do the videos get grainier as the megapixels increase? is this something sony can work on?

one thing seems to be that it takes fewer pictures per second than the NZ. this may be part of why the battery isn't as depleted by photographic events. this lends itself to jerkier motion, of course. I haven't put a test video on to see how the "play" works, but maybe I'll do that now.

Well, Kinoma plays as well as it does on the NZ90, for what that's worth.
