I have been having a problem wirh the Image Converter. It will load pictures onto my memory stick but loads them into a digital camera file:
G:\DCIM\101MSDCF
Additioanally, when I load a subsequent pictures it will load over prior pictures instead of in addition to. (The file name is not similar or the same) Can anyone help me with what I'm doing wrong?
For the time being I have been using the Picture Gear 5.1 which came with my NR70V. This functions without any problem, but I would like to know what I am doing wrong with the Image Converter!!!!

Can anyone tell me what, if anything the Image Converter does to still files that are transferred to the NX. The PGP software that came with the NR series used to change the format and shrink the size of the image (memory size) and store files in a PGP folder on memry stick. The current image converter seems to store the files in a digital camera file as referenced above.

I apologize for the sloppy formatting. This doc was done in Word which created some serious issues with formatting on the post.
PG Lite, PG Pocket, PhotoStand, and CliePaint
Picture Gear Lite is the desktop application that came standard on most if not all of the Clie CD Roms. With Picture Gear Lite you can easily convert images into a size and format compatible with your built in image viewing applications on your Clie.
TWO FORMATS
There are two formats available for viewing images in PG Pocket on your Clie.
When you first open PG Pocket you will be viewing all of the images stored in your internal RAM. You will see a drop down menu labled "Internal" at the top of the screan. If you open that menu you will see an option for "MS". After selecting "MS" you will be viewing all of the images stored on your Memory Stick. Once you have selected MS you will see two buttons at the bottom of the screan labled...
1.PGP
2.DCF
PGP:
All images stored within your internal RAM are PGP formatted. The PGP format is an image that has been converted into a Palm .prc file. These files can be stored in both RAM and on your MS, but is the only format that PG Pocket can access from your internal Ram. There are a few advantages to this format that the DCF format is not capable of doing. By storing these files in RAM you can
1. Set images in conjunction with contacts in your built in phone book.
2. Add graphics to your image in Clie Paint.
3. Rename the images to your own liking.
You can convert any image residing on your computer into this PGP/.prc format using Picture Gear Lite.
DCF:
This format allows you to view JPEG images taken from your Sony digital camera. If you have a Sony digital camera you can take pictures using your camera, remove the memory stick from your camera, insert it into your Clie and view them in PG Pocket. In order for these images to be viewed in the internal RAM on your clie you will need to convert them. This can be done directly on the Clie wihtou using Picture Gear Lite on your pc. You can convert any image in your computer into this digital camera format (DCF/.jpeg) using Picture Gear Lite.
CONVERTING IMAGES IN PICTURE GEAR LITE
The tutorials below will be examples of how you can convert number of images at once, quickly and easily for viewing on your Clie.
PGP CONVERSION:
1. Place all of the images that you would like to convert, and place them in new folder. (This will not be necessary if your images are already in a single directory on your computer)
2. Open Picture Gear Lite on your pc.
3. Browse to the folder containing your images using the folder window within Picture Gear Lite.
4. Once you have found the folder containing your images select your images by either
A. Pressing the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard and selecting indiviual images.
B. Selecting all from the edit menu at the top of the screen.
The images you selected should be highlighted green.
TIP: When converting images into this format they can be renamed. You can rename pictures in batch with Picture Gear by going to the “File” menu at the top of the screan and selecting “rename”. Example: If you select all of the pictures of your wife, you can rename them “Jamie” and associate a numerical progression to each picture selected. Jamie1, Jamie2…
5. Go to the "File" menu at the top of the screan and select /Output Services/...
A. Output Clie Handheldformat file to Memory Stick
i. You will need to select the proper drive for your Memory Stick, though you can select any drive you like. If you select the drive where your MS is at the file will be installed into /Palm/Programs/PICTUREGEAR/ on that drive. This directory will be created in this process for you if it is not already set up. If you choose your c: drive the files will be installed in /Palm/Programs/PICTUREGEAR/ on your c: drive.
B. Install the image during the next HotSync...
i. Your images will be waiting in your Palm Install Tool for installation into your RAM
.
DCF CONVERSION: without using a Sony digital camera to create the images.
1. Place all of the images that you would like to convert, and place them in new folder. (This will not be necessary if your images are already in a single directory on your computer)
2. Open Picture Gear Lite on your pc.
3. Browse to the folder containing your images using the folder window within Picture Gear Lite.
a. If you do not see a folder browsing window then go to the "View" menu at the top of the screen and select /Toolbars/Folder View/.
4. Once you have found the folder containing your images select your images by either
a. Pressing the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard and selecting indiviual images.
b. Selecting all from the edit menu at the top of the screen.
The images you selected should be highlighted green.
<P dir=ltr>5. Go to the “File” menu at the top of the screen and select /File Process/Still Custom Conversion/
a. Select either: Duplicate, Move, or Replace.
b. Change “Output Format” to “Memory Stick (*.jpg)
i. This selection converts the image to .jpg format and renames the file to a very specific format specific to digital cameras. The renaming of the file is done automatically during the process.
c. Resize the image to 320 pixel by 320 pixel (or whatever the screen size is on your Clie.)
d. Press OK
The files you converted should now have a file name that resembles “DSC00001.jpg”. Now you just need to move these images to there proper directory path on your Memory Stick. Here’s what you’ll need to do.
1. Create this full directory path on your MS
a. /DCIM/100MSDCF/
2. Move your images into the /100MSDCF/ directory.
Your images are now ready for viewing on your handheld.
PHOTOSTAND
In PhotoStand you can create slide shows for viewing on your handheld. PhotoStand has some features that set it apart from most slide show apps available for Palm handhelds. PhotoStand will allow you set up your slides with custom effects such as having a digital clock with your selected pictures as the background. You can also choose custom transitions for your slides similar to options in PowerPoint or othe presentation software.
CLIE PAINT
With Clie Paint you can add custom graphics to the images stored in your internal RAM. You can add colored graphics, text, and other preformatted designs to your images. The images do have to be in the internal RAM in order to do this but you can export them back to your MS very easily on the device, and all of the editing that you have done on the device will be preserved.

Dear kennyd,
I can't thank you enoug for your very detailed reply. I will be attempting to apply your instructions this evening when I get Home and will let you know how successful my efforts are.
Correct me if I am wrong, but PGP did not come with the NX did it? (If so, I missed this on the installation disk.)
Thanks for your time

I have an SJ30. I've never looked at the software that came with the NX. On the T series and SL/SJ series PG Pocket, PhotoStand, and Clie Paint come packaged in the ROM. PG Lite is available on the CD Rom. I guess I've never heard anyone say one way or the other. I apologize if my post does turn out to be irrelevant to your issues.

Right, PGP does not come with the NX, it does include Photostand and Picture Gear studio on the desktop. The Clie will still view PGP files though.
Image converter that comes with the NX works very nicely for pics and vids. One caveat though, all files have the same name. Image converter is real difficult to use otherwise, all you do is drop and drag.
Congrats on your Senior Status!

If all files end up with the same name after using the image converter, that would explain why new images replace old ones when I use the image convertert to transfer stills to my memory stick. Does the image converter actually change the image's format like PGP did?

Is there a way of downloading Picture Gear viewer for the NX as otherwise its very difficult to download images onto the memory stick and access them? it also seems very slow to view?

Hi,
Does anyone know if the imageViewer app on the NX70 can save in PGP format on the RAM. If not anyone know what format it does save in on the RAM?
We used PGP format on the previous Clie's to read in Clie images into BugMe! Messenger and Pixer. It doesnt appear to work on the NX : (

My fiancee has a Palm m515 and we're trying to get new backgrounds on her palm. She doesn't have a expansion card. How do I get jpgs onto the palm since I don't have the MS Import option like my Clie does? The sample Aquawood background that came with ZLauncher is a prc file. Is there anyway to make a jpg into a prc file so I can HotSync it that way? Do I use PG Lite that came with my Sony to convert the jpgs?
