I've just set up an edonkey/emule server at
hansschmucker.servehttp.com
(since I'm on a dynamic IP, you have to add it manually in the server tab)
Sharing two of my movies I've converted for CliéMovie: The Addams Family and Gun Smith Cats. Please rename your files this way before sharing:
MOV00001.MQV.MovieTitle.Clie.MOV
, so people can just search for Clie and find all movies/clips.

I think sharing using a tool developed for spreading movies is much more effective then using IRC, which was only meant to be a chat system.

However, please don't (ab)use it for anything else besides Clié Movies. I do not have the bandwidth to handle anything else.

To download/share, you can either use
Emule ( http://www.emule-project.com )
or
Edonkey ( http://www.edonkey2000.com )

unf....I shudder at the thought of renaming the 80GB of NX video that I have converted......

LOL, then just go to
Start/Run/command.com
C: (or whichever drive has your movies on it)
cd \MQ_ROOT\100MQV01
rename *.MQV *.MQV.Clie.MOV

Seems like a failure.... what a shame. I'm taking the server down. Still, those of you who use filesharing tools for MP3 and the like could rename their files to MOV00001.MQV.MovieTitle.ClieMovie.MOV and just share them, even without a dedicated server, this might work, since all you have to is search for ClieMovie to get a list of available titles! I will still be around as an emule client (I don't use it for downloading, so I don't have to share anything besides ClieMovies=.

I find persoal ftps work better. Since you have your own site like me, you can just link to the ftp on your PC and whenever the ip changes you just change the link.

But if you don't want to do this I've heard good things about DirectConnect.

I think people should just bite the bullet and try out IRC. It really isn't that complicated and the amount of content is far beyond what you will find anywhere else. The main problem seems to be that people fear making mistakes in front of others in the channels, but all you really have to do is ask and there are many helpful people that will make it easy, and who knows, people may learn a few things in the process, and that is never a bad thing.

I used to share files using IRC but when I enabled the required ports on my router, no other computers in my LAN could get internet access. So I eventually disabled the ports again.

I would jump to IRC but I can't find a client for solaris that allows file sharing, at least in the sense that mIRC does it.
