Still not cheap enough:(, but you can try here at http://www.canadacomputers.com/memory.html#fla

256 Lexar MS select for $99, Pro for $135. :) (after rebate)

take the price to futureshop and pm. it (another 10% off).

Or ecost.com with borderfree shipping. You can get a lexar 256 pro stick for $121 after all additonal fees and shipping. Just checkout by clicking the maple leaf for Canadians.

Appleman, could you check the price for the 256MB MS select from Ecost to Canada, I am too lazy to get a borderfree account just for this. Thank you.

You don't need an account. Once you find the item you want you click the "Buy Now" button. Then after you put in the quantities instead of clicking the "Checkout Now" green button, you click the red "Customers" button that has the maple leaf next to it. It calculates all the fees.

A Sandisk 256 MB Select stick is $110.55 I believe. I don't actually sign up for an account, I just put useless data into the shipping/billing info.

Palié - some questions for you:

- What's the difference between a Lexar MS Select and a Pro (other than the price)? I'm new to the PDA world, and want memory mainly for MP3s, pictures, and backups.

- Does FS still honour web prices? I tried to do something similar at Staples recently and they said that they will only price match other name brand brick and mortar stores (i.e. FS, Best Buy, London Drugs (out west)).

- Is there a certain brand of MS that is better than others, or are preferences based on price only?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for coming in here late, and thanks for the updated info.

I pestered Canada Computers for a while, back when their price was C$134 plus taxes for the MS Select. They just never had the thing in stock. I mostly tried the Pacific Mall location. Has anyone actually bought one from them at the $99 price?

I ended up getting mine from eCost. S/H to Canada via BorderFree was more than US$20 (yes, you betcha), but with the exchange rate it was still below Canada Computers at the time.

MS Pro offers capacity above 128 MB and are much faster than normal MS, but they can only be used on OS5 Clies. For older devices, there is MS select, it's just like 2 normal MS with the physical size of one, you have to flip a switch on the MS to access the other side (like an audio tape).

Futureshop does honour web prices, only if the webstore has a physical address in Canada. Fyi, Canadacomputers does not sell anything online, it's just a price list. I recently matched a printer price diff at Staples, no prob.

There are no differences between Sony, Lexar or Sandisk MS as far as I know, I personally don't understand why people pay 50% more to justify the Sony brand.

Palié:

Thanks for the answers. I've got an NX70V coming in the mail, so it looks like the best bet for me is either a 128 or 256 MS Pro.

I bought some RAM from Canada Computers in downtown T.O. last year, so I am aware of them. It's good to know that I can go to FS and get a price match on MS memory though.

It's funny how you were able to price match Canada Computers at Staples. I tried it with CompuSmart (which has stores in Canada as well as being an online retailer), and Staples refused to price match.

Anyway, thanks for the info. It's nice to see a Canadian contingent on Cliesource!

Happy Canada Day!
