Memory stick problem

I have a problem with the launcher directory on the memory stick. When I try to open this directory (with MS gate) it gives the message "now sorting" and then it freezes. Tapping on the screen does not help, nor does the on/of button. Only a soft reset helps. A similar problem occurs when using "card info"; it freezes with the message "please wait".

I can access the launcher directory using MS import.

Any ideas? Formatting the MS will probably help, but maybe someone has a better solution.

I would have said the formatting that you mentioned.

To make it easier you can always use the MS Import/Export (that you said works) and make a backup of your info and then format the MS.

The only other things I could think of would be to check if you have and app's on the MS that are incompatiable with your unit and to check out if you have any other file management app's on your Clie that aren't working properly.

I had a similar problem and discovered a corrupt file. My PC would lock up whenever I attempted to copy files (for backup) from my memory stick to the PC with MSImport. I found the corrupt file by copying one folder at a time.

Try copying everything from the memory stick to your PC and format the memory stick as Shellybelly suggested and then begin restoring folders to the stick one by one to see if you have a corrupt file in one of them.

Thanks for your advice. I was hoping to avoid the formatting, but it seems better to do it this way.

The formatting solved the problem. I still don't know what caused the problem; I did not identify a corrupt file. There is a bit more space available now on the MS, so there may have been some invisible files (is that possible at all??)

They never do tell you, but you should always format the MS when you get them.

This avoids problems with programs that would not normally create problems.

Use ScanDisk or Norton's Disk Doctor to fix the error, just like you would do on a PC's hard drive.
