View Full Version : Getting new NX70!

Does anyone know...

I am getting a new NX70 (Gunmetal) to replace my silver one. I want to know if anyone thinks it's better to just put the new NX in its cradle and hot sync with what is in my current PROFILE (or Palm user name), which I believe will just RESTORE my apps and all to the new NX, or should I re-install everything from scratch?

I don't think I would need to un-install the Intellisync and Palm Desktop, right?

If anyone thinks it's better to re-install everything 'fresh', how do I erase the info from my current Hot Sync profile (or Palm user name) without un-installing Palm Desktop and/or Intellisync and re-install everything 'fresh'?

Thanks in advance.

Hotsync. I just exchanged my CLIE NX, and was able to get back to where I was with the other unit within about 30 seconds with this method. Just make sure that you Hotsync your Silver when you are ready to 'capture' the way it is configured in its entirety (so you don't end up restoring from an old Hotsync).

If you're moving from one NX to another NX, I would actually just restore a backup. Use either MSBackup or BBVFS. Not all files get backed up on a hotsync, so the backup restore should be a cleaner method.

So, I should use MS Backup to do a full back-up and restore to the new NX? Why does that work better than a Hot Sync? I thought a Hot Sync would be a FULL RESTORE from a hard reset.

A HotSync MAY do a full restore from a hard reset, depending on the files you have loaded and your system setup. But it also may not, so it's not reliable. Some files in RAM do not get backed up during a hotsync. And I have heard of files deleted previously getting restored using a hotsync restore, though that may be a thing of the past (may not happen with the new OS). So basically, HotSync should not be relied on as a backup method.

The version of MSBackup with the NX seems to do a very good job with restores in my tests, and it will restore all of your files, so I would use it instead.

I agree; a restore from an MSBackup should definitely do the trick. After all, that's what it's made for :) The problem comes in when you're trying to restore from a backup of a different model CLIE -- in which case, neither method would be acceptable (you would have to reinstall everything manually).

I wanted to do this! But I don't have the money. How are you going about this, dimensiondvdrob?

Nice, that's where I got my silver. As you can read here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1180), I really want a gunmetal as well. How much do you think you're going to get back on your silver one?

The silver ones are faster than the grey ones.

I honestly don't know. But, I think I am going to try and sell it for $350.00 to $400.00 (plus shipping), which I think is a fair price.
Hint Hint...

If I didn't already own a silver NX70v, I'd take ya up on that offer.

Anyone know where I can buy a 2nd cradle in the grey gunmetal?
