Ok, reading a post recently in the Compact Flash section on this site here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18262) , i've now found out, thanks to hans, that you can tweak certain settings in the registry to change the way Image Converter encodes the movies.

First off, this is amazing, thanks hans for letting us know. I've managed to fit the WHOLE 2h 6mins of The Matrix Reloaded at 320x240 ok quality on a single 128mb MS!

Second, im aware that you can change the Audio bitrate, Video bitrate, FPS, and resolution. But what else can you change? And what values have you tried on the settings i already know? What works best?

Third, i think IC + MP are the best video progs out there, they are MPEG-4 after all! So being able to tweak stuff to make results better is really class. I was interested in Kinoma, but only because you had more flexibility on settings, now we have this with IC.

So, coming to the main question, could anyone out there make a program which could tweak the settings of IC without need to enter the registry?
If this could be done, im sure lots of us out there would love to have a copy.

Any ideas, anyone?

Matt

P.s. Hans, what settings have you tried in the registry? I've found that i couldnt change to any resolution, only what IC uses on other settings, i.e. 320x240 and 160x112.

I could write one in TCL, just give me a few days.

About settings:
Size is are only these two I believe
Framerate is about everything up to 15fps (15000)
Video data rate should be between 32 and 384 and be a power of two or 3*2^x (32 64 96 128 192 256 384)
Audio is probably between 32 and 128
Stereo is 0 or 1

BTW, the original post wasn't mine, it was by some unregistered guy, I believe.

Is this easy to accomlish? Changing the settings in the registry?

And do I understand you right, that if I find the corresponding registry entry, I can tweak these settings (Audio bitrate,
Video bitrate, FPS: set them lower) within the boundaries hans mentions in order to get a smaller filesizes of the IC output?

This would be great news because so far I like using Image Converter a lot. Easy and very good results.

Thanks Hans, if tou could write one that would be excellent :D btw, what is TCL that you mentioned? A program?

cosFFM:

Yes it is possible to tweak the settings. If you are familiar with regedit.exe then just open it and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Sony Corporation/Image Converter, and change the settings in there (read hans post above for guidance on settings, and be sure to BACKUP your registry first!!!). If you do not know regedit very well, i suggest you wait for the program Hans is so kindly enough to make for us, again cant thank you enough Hans.

TCL is an interface language... But I think I will switch to VB for this one. It's just easier to deliver

Hehe, I really should register my nickname ;)

Audio seems to be the most temperamental of all the variables, I recall trying a few and some of them didn't work even though they were fairly common bitrates. I think 64 was one, I could be wrong though, been a few days since I played around with it.

Ok Hans, i get you now. Keep us informed on how your doing, you can email me at mattyj2002@btopenworld.com if you like.

This is going to be great, all i have to do now is get some cash to buy a nice 256meg CF + the Eruware driver!

Oh, and Pibrahim, audio does work with 64kbps, as it is the bitrate used on Normal Quality settings ;)

Yeh, but you'll have to wait for Hans to write it first! LOL!

Great job Hans, this is amazing!

Just wondering what Video data settings you tried?
I've just tried a multiple of 216 (the standard 'normal quality' setting) and that worked fine. I tried 144, so it might be possible to use others like 54, 72, 108, 144 etc. Just thought you might want to know.

I'll check them out and get back to you.

Once again, thanks for the brilliant program :D
