I can recommend SuperMemo, from MapleTop Software (www.mapletop.com).

It's flashcard software, but it has a special built-in system that notices which things you have trouble remembering, and retrains you on those items. This makes it better than a plain flashcard program.

I am using SuperMemo for over a year and I like it except for the lack of updates for over 2 years. I wonder what happened to the company (mapletop.com). Their web site was last updated in August of this year, so there is some activity. Also, one of my favorite games NoMess made by the same company has not been updated for a long time.

I have noticed that there's a new application that also uses a smart algorithm to remind you your words. It can be found here: http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&sid=1BC54148-A1A8-4D74-8291CC6F38FFE6B4&prodID=51239

Tell me what you think

One BIG plus in support of Supermemo is ease of use, very smart algorithm and many databases available - I love the French and the German databases. Look here: http://mapletop.com/supermemo/databases/index.html

I just realized there is another option - SlovoEd dictionaries have the flash card mode where you can study words on an algorithm similar to that of SuperMemo.
