Hmm ... So i guess it's not only a North American release!
http://www.brighthand.com/article/SJ33_Announced_in_Japan
The only difference is that is has some IC card reader (I guess that's why it's delayed to develop this IC reader) which I have no clue what it is
Can someone elaborate on this?
Thanks

that is a smart card reader, but it seems limited to some Japanese smart card schemes. Drivers... drivers....
Smart Cards Could be used in the US with your new Visa or MasterCard smart card to buy securely on the internet through your browser. This is emerging in the US but not yet very visible.
Another app would be to store loyalty points and be able to manage them through your Clie... dream...
In principle, another application could be to use the smart card to store passwords and URL's and use it on both PC and Clie's browser.
I have such an application on my PC it is very convenient. Not a commercial product yet... It works with a PCMCIA type 1 card that can accept the smart card itself.

Well
I take this back as the IC card technology that seems to be implemented in the Japanese NZ is contactless. There are no ISO contacts on these cards.
So, it will not read regular smart cards...
Also the standard implemented by sony in 1998 is not the same as the one that is emerging from Visa and MasterCard for contacless payments and multi-applications java cards: ISO14443 Aand B
