In the NX simulator, it looks okay and is different from the other CF driver. But everything's in Russian.

The translation is pretty rough, but I think this is just the new NX driver from Sony.

Will the new driver coexist with the eurware driver?

These appear to be the NX 73/80 drivers. They will work if you install them correctly.
Warning #1: This is a gray area of piracy. These are copyrighted drivers and AFAIK they have not been officially released by Sony for use in other model CLIEs.
Warning #2: If you are going to try them, do so at your own risk!(ie. you can't just Hot-Sync them). You need to muck around and disable or delete the existing driver, then copy them over from a memory stick. BTW: You don't need all the files.
> Will the new driver coexist with the eurware driver?
No. If both are active at the same time, it will wedge your CLIE.
If you are adept at using a tool like FileZ you can swap between the two rather easily (change a few file types, and reboot)
-----
I'm not sure what the policy of this BBS is regarding posting links to unofficial software drivers.
If this thread stays alive for a day, I'll post some other goodies I've learned for those who want to tempt fate with this not-so-official official driver (eg: Movie Player can be tricked to work)
If this thread disappears, I can understand that too (although I reserve the right to point out any conflicts of interest ;-)

Cliepet:
I want to try this 'goodies' you've mentioned, if MoviePlayer can be tricked to play... maybe audioplayer can be tricked too???... I allready have Eruware's driver but there's a thread where it says the Sony drivers (that's what the russian site is hosting) reads/writes to CF cards faster... mabe we can finally get HQ Movies to play on 1GB cards... that would be GREAT.
So, if you feel like sharing the secrets (including how to handle both drivers at the same time), my e-mail address: celadagz@intelnet.net.gt

I've translated a big part of it... I want to bring analog modem support for the new "CF utility 1.1", but I need some files from the Japanese version of the NX73/80. Any charitable soul can help me?

Will this work with the NX60 also? Does this allow me to use the CF slot with regular CF cards?
VLevyNYC yes, this will work on your NX60, it has the CF Slot right? But do bare in mind that this will only serve as storage purposes only, & can't play any multi-media files off the Compact Flash Card! Also it's in Japanese ver. as of now, until the official release of the US ver. but it'll work.
It's stable but doens't come close to what Eruware has to offer.

yes, they're the files from the Japanese ver. NX73, & not all the files are needed as you mentioned. As far as I know, only 2 files are needed. Yet I can be wrong. :p
CFStorageLib.prc & CF Slot.prc
Oh, & CliePet, MoviePlayer tricked to play sounds interesting. Pls PM me at your convience. :D

alright, I would like some help with all this. I program stuff, but I program in basic.. using microsoft VB so I really don't consider myself a programmer, i have downloaded all the files needed from the nice .Zip link someone put on here (thank you avega =D) what I would like to know is #1 will this interfeir with my 802.11b wireless card? and can someone give me detailed instructions on how to install this thing safely, I backed up, but I have a feeling that backing up will not be able to save my clie from my lack of knowledge :-P i am going to download filez, so if anyone wants to give me instructions from that point I would greatly appriciate it!

Thanks for the response. Hope you dont mind if I ask a follow-up:
Does that (quote) mean I can't play MP3s? Are those considered multi-media?

Yeah CliePet, do share your tricks on how to trick the NX to play movie files using the CF slot and the other goodies you mentioned with us :)

I just guess something better will come up when the new NX's are released in the US... that's if this 'tricking' can be easily done.

(when somebody knows or when somebody gets around to trying it...)
is this just the plain NX73 drivers or has it been modified/hacked in anyway?
The "trick" for the movieplayer sounds interesting! Please share!!
Thanks.

I'm curious, for those of you that have tried it . . . does MSImport/Export work with these drivers? Can you hotsync directly to CF? I know the capability *seems* to be there with the PC end, but...
CliePet

It looks like the moderators aren't cracking down on this gray area of piracy. If the thread isn't deleted by tonight, I'll post more details then, including how to install them and patch one byte.
[ie. I'll tell you how to do things, but the act of downloading an unofficial driver is your decision]
---
Additional warnings:
Replacing any system files can be dangerous. I thought of writing a simple switcher app, but I don't want to make it *too* easy.
Worst case you may need to hard-reset to get things working again (eg: if you screw up and click the wrong checkbox in Filez you can do a lot of damage)
---
It is not a complete solution.
The EruWare driver supports more apps and more modes (eg: Dual MS mode).
To play MP3 files, or use the still camera (and hopefully the Movie camera one day) you need to use the EruWare driver.
These apps require more elaborate tricks than you will find in the simple 'free' NX73 driver with or without a simple patch.
CliePet
06-24-2003, 11:22 AM
> does MSImport/Export work with these drivers?
No. Any programs with explicit checks for 'Memory Stick' do not work. This is the reason EruWare invented Masquerading/Cloaking for their driver.
With a 1 byte patch to the NX73 driver, you can trick a few of the apps, but not all of them (ie. including MoviePlayer but not AudioPlayer)
> Can you hotsync directly to CF?
Yes, that can be done with a vanilla driver (ie. an unhacked NX73 driver or the EruWare driver with no Masquerading options)
Not the fastest way to get data to a CF card, but it is an option
well, patiently waiting for your insider details on how to get this trick to work, even though you can't play MP3, but able to run movies from CF via MoviePlayer is already a plus. I'm currently using the eruware driver, but would be interesting to try out new tricks. Least you have more options to choose from. IMHO
MS Import/Export wouldn't work, but yet DataImport & Data Export should work right? They're also found on the NX73 CD-ROM.

MS Import/Export wouldn't work on NX70V,but it works on NZ90 according Russian website http://forum.ladoshki.com/viewtopic.php?p=27480 use for translation from Russian to English http://babelfish.altavista.com/

FWIW: I can't get MSImport to work on an NZ
I think the russian post is commenting they are different - but not saying one actually works.
I don't know about Data Import.
jackho
06-24-2003, 10:08 PM
Actually DataImport has 2 part: MS and CF. Each of them use different USB driver. MS part is as same as MSImport before (doesn't require to install new driver), but CF part you need to do that.
My dream is Eruware driver and co-operate w/ Sony driver, then I can use DataImport instead of my PCMCIA CF adapter.
Eddy: Only DataExport and CLIE SCSI driver are in CD-ROM, DataImport is inside NX73/80's ROM.

Sony is also calling it Data Import and Data Export on the NZ90. So are they the same as MS Import and MS Export?

whats a .rar file? why cant i open it? what have i done wrong this time?
you need winrar (basically) its like winzip to open rar files. you can download it from downloads.com or most any download portal
yep, WinRAR will do the upzipping for your file. You'd definitely find it very useful, even in the upcoming future. :p
Oh, Larry, the DataImport/Export is basically quite similar to the MSImport/Export, they just renamed it, as well as some improvements so that you can transfer files not only to the MS but also the Compact Flash Card. (2 destination of storage)
Jack, thanks for the correction, :p
I forgot about the minor difference with the dataImport being a *.prc file off the Clie, & the DataExport being on the CD-ROM which has to be installed in windows. Just like MSExport. :D

Alternatively, use ultimatezip to open .rar files. You can obtain the program from http://www.ultimatezip.com .

The fact that this driver works on the old NX and NZs is just more proof that the new Clies are merely repackaged old NXs.

Haha... true...nicely repackaged NX70s.... woah.... looking at Eddy's new avatar makes me wanna get the NX73... really nicely repackaged with a nice black suit. :p

That is so so ture, it's just a more aero-dynamic look with the smoother round edges. If you see it in person then you'll most likely be tempted by the improve repackaging. :D
ricleo, thanks for your comment on the avatar thing, I just kinda got sick of looking at my old one so though a new look wouldn't hurt. :D
