Sorry if this is repeat posting..

I'm trying to figure out the right way to organize files in my memory stick so that applications will be correctly associated. I understand that ".prc" files go in the "launcher" folder, but do ".pdb" files necessarily go in the "MSfiles" folder?

Will these be placed correctly if I let hotsync do the work? What about MSbackup?

Thanks for any help, guys, girls!

It all depends on what the files are used for and what program is using them. iSilo for example looks in the /PALM/Programs/iSilo directory for it's .pdb files. But a program like Mapopolis allows to to set what directory to put your maps in. Many times the README file will explain where you should put your files on the Memory Stick. If your still not sure about a certain file, just ask here and be sure to specify what app the file is for.

thanks cbulock, very helpful!

I haven't been able to get remote-control applications to function on my NX70. Zlauncher and Xlauncher don't work either. The Zlauncher says that I haven't installed the theme file (which I have).. and the Xlauncher simply crashes. Are there word processors that are free? Wordsmith seems to be the most popular here, are there others I should look into?

Is it against the law to offer someone money to buy a copy of their applications so I don't have to go searching for all the applications I want?

When installing ZLauncher, make sure that you install the correct skin. It should be called AquawoodXP_Sony_64k I believe. If you don't install the right one, it won't work.

As for word processors, you have already purchased a copy of Documents to Go when you bought your NX. It is on the CD that comes with your Clie. It might not be the best out there, but it will probably do most of what you want.

I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my advice as the law, but when you say buying a 'copy', I would have to say that would be illegal. But if the person you are buying software from removes all copies from there computer or PDA of the software, and sells their copy to you, then that should be totally legal.

As cbulock says if your purchasing the whole thing from another party. Copying might also be legal if the developer gets additional payment for it. Remember that most registration codes are based on your HotSync name, just so you know. Some freeware mya also be legal to copy, if it's done in it's entirety. It all depends on the licensing agreement from the developer.

Copying someone's file that is still being used by them is pretty fringy. PALM apps in shareware and even e-tailware are no where near as expensive as those for the desktop. You can load up your PDA for about what a really good dinner out would cost for you and Sweetie. Shareware lets you "try before you buy".
If you like it, buy it, if you don't delete it or reinstall it and keep putting up with the nag screens until you can afford it
As far as looking for apps, you can find almost anything worth anything over at Palmgear.com.
IMHO

I would second buying the apps you want directly from the developer . . . for two reasons: YOU get the support if there's an issue or conflict with another program, and good software developers DESERVE to be supported....to encourage them to keep writing MORE (Yes, I AM greedy...especially when it comes to MORE/NEW SOFTWARE!)

cbulock is correct in the skinfile you need to install. I use ZLauncher, and it IS confusing to install, more with the NX than any other PDA---do I pick OS5 or . . . NO WAIT I need the Sony version . . . 64k?. (I finally had to refer to the instructions...) I ALMOST wish they'd ZIP their files in 'groupings' so you'd know what to install for which PDA . . . but it's there now. HEH. All I have to do now is wait for the updates to roll in...=)
