THe game we have all been waiting for to convert to English is finally here! This is the official game by Taito. Supports OS5, continue, and various other features.

The only problem, looks like it is a whoppin $29.95 and there appears to be NO trail, just an Add to Cart.

Anyone want to purchase and talk about it? I would, but $30 bucks! Jeez are they insane.

I would really like to see Bubble Bobble.

$30 is wayyyyyy too much as there are more resonably priced and very similar games.

$30 is a bit much for ANY palm game. Especially one with no trial. (ok, $30 is way more then "a bit much").

My last expensive game I bought was only $20. which was AstroCommander (http://www.handago.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=53E8A1BE7AFBC572ED246641E5EB1XX7&productId=22582&optionId=1_1_2&productType=2&catalog=1&txtSearch=astro&sectionId=0&platformId=1) which is now useless to me since it wont run on my hires OS5 device....and the company wont even return an email or update their product.

So I must hesitate before I spend that much money on a PDA game!

This game would be nice but $30.00 is a bit expensive. I'll hold back on it for now.

If we only could get our hands on the pBobble code. These two are practically identical, but pBobble is freeware. Problem is it has a bug which causes screen artifacts on HR devices (OS4+5) and the code has never been published, so we can't fix it!

pretty close to DynoMite if you ask me. Cept Dynomite can tend to be a little too fast sometimes. 30$ huh...ick

hansschmucker, pls keep us informed if you managed to figure a workaround! :D thanks!

Here's a quick hack:
http://hansschmucker.free.fr/clie/pBobble%20HR%20compatibility%20hack/
I simply made the balls smaller, but this doesn't fix all errors and doesn't look too good either.
For anything else we need the code

Definitely go with Dynomite. Half the price and enhnced for OS5.

I have bubble-bobble rom-code.... wonder if that would work with the new emulator out there?

Alistar

Ah, bubble bobble.
Little dinosaurs, lots of bubbles, predictable enemies.
What a classic.

Eddy

would the ROM code be useful for Hans to make this Puzzle Bobble run much better or better graphics like Hires+ ? I've got it working under /PALM/PROGRAMS/LAUNCHER/ & it's quite good, another thing to kill time while waiting in the car for my girlfriend..... z zzzZZZ you know that wait is like endless... :p

I'm no programmer... I can't and I won't write an emu. All KI did was resize the images, so they now leave white artefacts on a white background =) , that's good enough for me

P.S. no, I don't need a ROM image, I have the original arcade machine right next to my desk (with a few modifications)

BUt I want BubbleBobble! Bubble Bobble completely rules! It's only possible to play it using an emulator like arm ZX or Phoinix, I want a proper implementation with good sound color etc! Puzzle Bobble may be great, but BubbleBobble- now that would be FANTASTIC!

why not just exclude pbobble from the hi-res list on preferences (OS4 devices?)

hansschmucker

Because I'm on OS5 =)

Bad news, just got a reply from Niels:

> Hey Niels. I'm one of those chosen few who happen to have an original
> SNK NeoGeo 330 Max Mega Pro Gear spec in their living room (That's
> the machine PuzzleBubble was originally developed for). Anyway...
> Taito has just published an offical Palm version. However it's really
> expensive and there's no trial.

I am painfully aware of that. I just got an email from Outlook
Entertainment Inc. (the maker of the new version) saying that pBobble is

a violation of TAITO's copyright, so I guess this is GAME OVER for real
:-(

> I remembered your project and checked. Still beta3. Still no HR fix.
> Would you mind giving out the source so we can do a fix, since it
> seems like you've lost interest. There are some excelent programmers
> over at Cliesource who would certainly be happy to fix it and maybe
> even add new features!

Actually, I was almost ready to release a new version with new features
(no HR support yet, though), but that's too late now.

Regards,
Niels

You might want to talk to Outlook Entertainment ( KevinM@OutLookEntertainment.com ) about bad buisness practice. Anyway, it's Taito who own the copyright, not them.

I just bought it and played it, its actually really good, kinda suprised me!! Sounds work great on my NX70! its good sound effects, and great gameplay!! smooth, and amazing!! I think its work 17.99!! it has 1 player of course, VS computer, practice, playoff, options to tweak the speed, controls, and sound. pretty amazin...i give it a 9/10. Kinda small on the screen tho, but the graphics are amazing!

to correct you, OutLook Entertainment officially licensed the Puzzle Bobble name; and, as such own the PDA version; they however do have to pay royalties to Taito. the PDA version is (c) copyright by OutLook Entertainment.

so, now you know where the sounds/music came from! take a look inside the credits section - and, you'll see that we helped with the music/audio side :) its actually the first official license for the Fidelity Music Engine.

Cool!

If I read it correctly, you guys found away to make sound and music for the Clies, and you'll make it available to other developers.

If that's true, that's the best ever freakin' news I've heard from the cliesource. (even bigger than the CF drivers, which attracted me to the site in the first place.)

Sound API should've been a free tool provided for the developers by sony. I have no idea why they didn't make it so. (Maybe their sound code includes signs of demonic and devilish worshipping? I don't know.)

I haven't tried the puzzle bubble because there doesn't seem to be a preview version, (which I think is pretty dumb for any game that costs over $5,) my impression is it's pretty good.

Imagine a MMplayer that works on Clies with sound. Now that's worthy of drooling.

So, is your engine capable of producing quality sound, or just quality music? If just music, are you planning to work on a real sound API? If so, how available are you planning to make it for the small developers?

Ah... so many questions, so much hope.

At least it's being shown that it's humanly possible. Keep on bringing on the good news, Ardiri!
