If you must get a Palm smartphone, then surely.... Samsung SGH-i500 kills the new Treo...... (unless you are married to a CDMA 2000 service like Sprint or Verizon)
Compare (Samsung vs. Treo):
* Intel 300Mhz PXA262 vs. TI 144Mhz OMAP
* 320x320 16bit transreflective vs. 160x160 12bit reflective
* OS 5.2 with 32MB of RAM vs. OS 5.2 with 32MB of RAM
* SDIO and VGA camera with embedded flash vs. SDIO and VGA camera
* Flip phone design with external OLED screen for caller ID vs. none-flip phone design
*1100mAh std batt (3.5 hrs talk) and a 1700mAh optional batt (5.25 hrs) vs. 1800mAh std batt (6 hrs talk)
Except for battery life, the Samsung is much better device, and a much better smartphone of the two.

Here is a picture of the i500 from the Wall Street Journal recently. A little different.

Because that's the SPH i500, not SGH i500 that I'm talking about.
SPH i500 is CDMA 2000, OS4.1!, 16 MB of RAM, 66Mhz Dragonball, and is basically crap compared to the GSM version. Comparable to the new KyoceraPalm phone.
CDMA folks get no respect from Samsung......

Oh, they did a crappy review as they forgot those letters you bolded and left out all the specs like what palm OS and the processor and screen resolution and such. My fault.

I think this matches my wants much better and cannot wait till it comes out as I might give up my NX for it.

Yep. As long as you don't care about a thumb board, the Samsung is much better for ya.

OS 5.2 = graffiti 2 = write anywhere on the screen. Test it out at a store on the new Tunsten C. It's pretty cool.

I think the battery life is a big issue with a phone. 6 hours talk time is a _big_ selling point for me over 3.5 hours. It would depend how bulky the optional battery pack is for the i500. Also, the qwerty keyboard on the Treo is a big bonus for text messaging - i500 seems to be lacking in the input area.
Having said that, the treo would only work for me as a phone in addition to my clie, that happened to have the advantage of being palm OS. It could never be my only PDA. Neither could the i500 for that matter.
As for flip phone verses non-flip. That's a personal point. Many people would prefer a non-flip design.

If this is the case, then why bother with a Palm phone in the first place? If I'm going to carry my main Palm with me anyways, then the phone might as well be a dumb one. Cheaper and smaller the better.

Fair point.
Partly because I'm becoming a bit of a gadget freak :-)
But I like the ability to have my whole contacts list in my phone & some browsing ability. My ideal is a BT setup, perhaps T610 and TG50 but that means replacing 2 units.
Might just have to get a BT phone and wait to see what Sony does next ... but I still think the Treo 600 looks cute :-)

would be nice to have some treo 600 pictures for comparison. I am diggin the thumbboard of the treo 600, but that 160x160 screen sounds awful!
Can't wait for these new phones to come out though.
