I transfer quicktime movies (from apple quicktime movie site) filmtrailers - but there is no sound on my nx. Film is okay, but no sound.

Any idea

How were you able to get the Clie to recognize the files? There are many posts here of users not being able to get QT files to play on the Clie. Please post details ;-) What were the QT settings for the file?

I dl'ded 'Finding Nemo' from the Quicktime site and converted it using the Convert function and it worked fine.

I'm using Quicktime Pro. I do have MPEG 4 codecs installed though cause we produce multimedia CD's, this might have something to do with it, I'll investigate ;)

Is it Bad Boys 2 by any chance?
It is impossible to transfer Bad Boys 2 from apple's site with audio. I tried every conversion program I could find with no luck.

I'm getting the same thing. I though the AniMatrix shorts would be great for showing off my NX -

But Image Converter converts the.mov files without sound. The video does look good -- but worthless without sound.

Any fixes out there ?

Have you tried Kinoma Producer? http://www.kinoma.com/products.html

Sounds like a familiar case that I had long time ago.
The problem lies within the movie trailer itself and not the Image Converter. Sometimes the trailers are in a specific format (kinda like encryption) that still allows you to view it perfectly with QuickTime, whereas when you try to convert it again, eg. to palm you loose the audio sound. Try converting the original movie trailer itself with Quicktime Pro 1st, to other types of format which is also supported by QuickTime, do check the "Audio" properties during your conversion. After a few time of playing around with the QuickTime exporting, you'll be able to figure out which sort of format will work with the Clie, then simply just use Image Converter and export to your Clie.
Also I know that you can playback NX's recorded movie on QuickTime simply by changing their extension from *.MQV to *.MOV, in theory, if you change the original *.MOV to *.MQV and load to your NX should play just fine, unless it's in *.AVI format which most trailers are. Have fun, after a few time of playing around, you'll definitely figure it out. :D

It's relevently easy, trust me. I was fooled by this exact same case during the 1st Original Matrix Trailer was released. Back then I was owner of Clie N710 and had to display it with gMovie. I was so upset that I couldn't show off the trailer becoz there was no audio. But the trick was with the QuickTime! :D

We're glad some have had no probs using QT Pro 6 to convert movies to NX video format. Now, those who have been successful why not post your QT Pro setting to all and end this thread discussion. I myself have tried over 30 settings and have had no success getting a video playable from QT Pro 6. Any advice?

I use Adobe Premiere. Open the ,mov file and then export it using the EXACT settings from the original for everything BUT the sound. Make sure the audio is exported at 44.1 16bit stereo UNCOMPRESSED. WOrks every single time... Image Converter can do any mov, mpg or avi file as long as you have the correct codecs on your CPU. The problem is with files that have compressed sound, IC just doesnt like them!

ashVID thank you. That will help a lot of us on this thread topic. BUt what happened to QT Pro 6 setting? This is a hot topic for manny Mac users who do not have the luxury of the Image Converter to run, or a $600 full featured app like Adobe Premiere. Rumors state that this can be accomplished with QT Pro 6.

I'm having trouble playing the mqvs that I've put on Fred (my NX60).

When I just shoved 'em over (via Hotsync -- that took FOREVER), they were dropped into the MSAudio folder in Palm/Launcher/MSAudio and the movie player can't find them.

I do not have anywhere on Fred the directory structure I've seen posted elsewhere (C:\MQ_ROOT\100MQV01), though I now have that on my PC (Win2k).

SO... now that I have MSImport/Export working, how to I get the MQVs to the correct place within Fred so MoviePlayer will play them? And, is MP the best 'player available?

Thanks for your patience!

QT 6 Pro can convert anything you want to anything you want...provided you have the correct import and export codecs. If Sony would be kind enough to provide or at least tell us what codec and settings Movie Player uses, QT 6 Pro could be used. Doubt that will happen though. Just like I doubt Sony will be supporting AAC Audio anytime soon. The video codec is some sort of MPEG4 and QT 6 can play Movie Player movies, so the codec may be there already, but I have no idea what it is or what settings to use to go the other way.

I believe even when you use Adobe Premier, you still have to use Image Convertor to get the movie in the right format.

hope there will be a new version of the player out by sony or another company that will act like a regular PC player enabling you to view different formats just as they are.

The NX has a great processor like the PPC's so theres no reason why such a player will be made - saving us all that conversion ****... PPC's even play DIVX video.

Yeah, I'd like to see that happen, so that without all the frustrations of converting to this & that format, encoding with sound & all. (would make things much less complex, afterall, that's the fundamentals of using a palm based OS right?) & the worst thing is you just end up with a video you might just keep inside your Clie for a limited amount of time before it gets outdated & then you'd have to go through the whole entire procedure to get another video running.

that's why I like to keep short movie trailers since they're short & you can use them to show off your NX, whereas like an entire movie I haven't had that much time to spend on that, & how many times can you keep watching the same movie on your Clie until you finally get sick of it? I know the same applies to movie trailers but lease (personally) they consume less of my time to convert & just not too long in length. :D

Every mobile device requires conversion for a video file to look good. Ever tried to play a native DIVX file on a PPC? It looks NASTY, chokes and cant keep up. You have to down convert it to a more friendly size and bitrate for it to look decent. Remember a PC has a lot more resources than a handheld...

I had put in another post that If I use the Toast Export from QuickTime I can play the resulting MPG file on my Clie. In fact it is a Muxed Track which looks pretty much like the format of movies shot on my F717 digicam.

I think this is the VCD format, you have very few export options. I took a 30min movie at 320x240 25fps and it is about 315mb. So by this looks like 90min might fit.

I tried to take this exact same source movie (qt from iMovie) into my Kinoma Producer and it kept crashing right at the start.

Now if I could just find an easy way to do this to my DVD's. Anyone have an easy mac solution. I thought maybe I would bypass probelms by plugging my miniDV into the DVD or TV video out and playing the DVD but it kept cutting off as some sort of security protection.

Oh, I forgot naming and location convention.

/DCIM/101MSDCF/MOV#####.MPG

Where # is any number.

Ok, actually this is the first time I tried to run this off of CF instead of MS and it did work in Masquerading mode. The video was smooth, but the sound was off so it was awkward when people were talking.

Maybe I'll see if I can get Kinoma working.

Thanks, Inertia.

So, I just start creating new folders in the Palm, starting with a /DCIM/ folder then moving onto a /101MSDCF/ folder, then I move the MOV#####.MPG file into that?

I doubt you will see the film.
The folder needs to be named MQ_ROOT\100MQV01\MOV#####.MPG
The folder you are talking about is for Images only..

The above is not true. This is how they come off my F707 and they play. My QT export when use "Export for Toast" is same format as comes from the camera. You have to set the player to view mpg movies.

It might be that your directory works as well, many diffent sony devices and camera may save to a variety of directories and it probably looks for all of them.

I have tested mine, so I know it works if saved in the correct format.
