Does best buy "swapping" still work with if I have the service plan?

I haven't tried it yet (NX70 prices are still to high) but I was told that if you had a problem with your product (in this case the TG-50) you could turn it in and if they didn't have one in stock you could "swap" it but I don't know about just plain ol swapping it just cause.

First off, let's try not to make this a thread about how ethically wrong it is to swap CLIEs.

The answer is yes, you can swap, but your original needs to have a problem such as the battery not holding as much charge as when it was new.

When I visited BB customer service for a price match, I was told that on the service plan my Clie would need to be evaluated by the in-store repair department before action was taken. I had been told when sold to me that the Clie could be returned with just my statement of "dissatisfaction".

Needless to say I "returned" the plan. It's not an "upgrade protection plan"; and my feeling was that they would arrange a significant hassle if I tried.

Having worked retail computer sales many moons ago elsewhere, I know these plans are a pretty freaking high-margin item. Like all insurance schemes, though, they like to discourage you early from ever (gasp) _using_ your policy.

Seems a little disingenuous to market it with the idea of upgrade protection, though.

I try not to abuse these policies too. But it's difficult, when even the salesperson tells you, "Just break it before the warranty ends, and then they'll replace it for a brand new current model. That's what we do."

Not to start anything but they just don't throw these things in the trash. They either send them back to sony where sony fixes them and sells them on their site or they fix them in-house and sell it as an open box item. I'm not going to argue the ethics of this cause no one is perfect enough to run around telling people what is wrong and right that is how things work. If you still have less then 30 days just return it saying you didn't like that one and get a defferent model. If you are depending on the service plan then like the others said it is going to be a uphill battle. I am going in tomorrow though to see what I can do.

I have had a 665 for the past 8 or 9 months, and I noticed a problem with the upper 1.3 of the screen not accuratly accepting input. (Draw a horizontal line and get an arc.) In some places near the top of the screen the distance from pen tip to where it was sensed was a good 1/8 of an inch or more.

I bought it at Best Buy, had the two year replacement plan, and was given a TG50 as a replacement with no questions asked. So for me at least, it was a few bucks well spent.

Just about 3 months ago I was having problems with my TG50. When I took it to Best Buy for a return I first had to get approval from a technician, then was told that I could only swap for the exact same model. Even though I wanted the exact same model, this should not have been a policy. It has always been that with a service plan, you can swap for what ever model you choose whether the price be higher or lower as long as the difference is paid. Best Buy is catching on to the many swaps and is drasticaly cutting down. I do think that now the service plans really don't mean anything now that they have complete say in if you can exchange or not. The no questions asked has long been over.
