Hi,
Does anyone know if adding system RAM increases the performance of Image Converter?
My PC (256mb RAM) currently takes 1 hour to convert 1 hour of MPEG-1 video. Thinking of increasing it to 512mb.

Wont help much... it all depends on your source material. Only a faster CPU or dual CPUs would speed it up...

Thanks for the info Ash. Maybe it's time to overclock my CPU :)
just be careful as to avoid overclocking it though. :)
video editing are really power hungry.

How does one overclock while at the same time avoid overclocking?

Im running a P4 2.0 ghz with 512 DDR ram and all my video conversions are in real time.
DDR RAM now that's music to my ears... :D

Converting it with a Power MAC G5 is music to my ears. 400MHz DDR baby! Dual G5 64bit 2GHz with a FSB of 1GHz! Now that's power and a dream for many of us LOL. Maybe someday i could afford to get such a powerhouse. But for now my sweet AMD 1600+ wil do just fine
How small will a Mpeg1 movie of 230MB be after the conversion? I know that it depends on the quality you choose but al i want are some rough numbers on the 3 different quality's

About 1MB/minute with quality set to Low
About 2MB/minute with quality set to Standard

WOW! that's pretty good. That would make a Fansub anime episode about 48MB @ standard quality. Cool!
Only thing i want now is that those damn Memory sticks become cheaper. €55,- for a 128MB is just expensive! A trancend 30x 128MB is just €27,9!!!
Prices will drop with the Memory sticks, it's already dropping. & with the release of MS Pro the Market, as well as the new MS DUO from Sony, regular purple MS will bound to drop to a much more reasonable price. :)

Just an observation from what i seen in this thread.
I think the earlier poster may have been refering to (overclocking)
in a problematic way as when doing such, some Cp's will run ok at higher clocks, but when data is passed through it,it is Fubar'd.
Corrupted.
really likes to screw over Ntloader in particular, and that means no joy in muddville.

I've just ran a test conversion on a 2.4ghz P4 pc yesterday and it seems like the conversion time is the same as my 1.4ghz Athlon.
Hmm, I think both conversion is done in realtime...

That mac is awesome, now find software for it at a reasonable price.

I wouldn't overclock for purpose of running cpu pegged at 100% for extended periods of time, which is prob whats going on while image converter is running. Or get a garden hose.
