Ok, so I went out and bought the Animatrix DVD (Final Flight is the only reason to buy this btw), and I started ripping it. I successfully ripped Final Flight of the Osiris into an MPG, which I converted into Kinoma (don't get too excited, it's not ready for release yet:(), but I'm having a problem. I'm getting a lot of "lines" through the video, and I'm not sure what's causing it. It's not a "low-res" issue, but something else. Here's a screenie:

See the lines? What are they from? Does it have something to do with the difference between PAL, NTSC, and FILM? Cause I don't really know the differences in these things, nor do I know the appropriate settings for ripping each type. If anyone can help me out, let me know! The sooner I get this taken care of, the sooner it goes live on my site:)

That's interlace artifacting.

How much space have you got. I already have a great Kinoma rip of this. But it's BIG (66MB).

Here's a screen shot from Kinoma playback...

Ahhh, interlace artifacting...that...was my....next.......guess....

Anyway, I'm not so much doing this for the pleasure of owning it myself, but rather for my site, and I'll need it in several different formats (NR/NX/maybe 320x320). Can you walk me through avoiding this problem? It honestly isn't that bad, as you don't notice it near as much during playback as you do in a screenshot. And I currently have it at 46mb, which I'm happy with. I'm using SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, and TMPGEnc...

Depends on what ripper you are using. Look for something like Progressive or Frame based mode (as opposed to Field order).

I used Smart Ripper, then Flask to create a raw AVI, then used Media Studio Pro to enhance & resize the video and saved is as a 100% quality Quicktime for Kinoma.

The files I encode tend to be on the large side. I encode for quality, not quantity. It looks really amazing on the NR though (and sounds great too - I used max quality Clié Audio).

I have some smaller stuff if you have room... Pirates of the Caribbean & Tomb Raider II trailers in both Yamaha ADPCM and Clié Audio - and Wide Screen as well as 320x240 rez. Tripping The Rift in 320x320 (a little raunchy, but funny as hell). And lots more.

do you save as avi from dvd2avi or do you use vfapi reader plugin. If you open the ripped vobs in dvd2avi and then save as a project, then run vfapi reader plugin on the project (this makes avi), then I found the quality after tmpenc or virtualdub is better.
