I purchased my NR 70 to get bigger screen to escape the 2.25"x2.25" screen of my Handspring; It turns out for any application involving text the Clie screen is still confined to this size as the graffitti screen is not removable?

The Music CD to memory stick downloader software that came with my Clie only will work with the white memory stick not the purple one that came with it. The purple will support MP3s, but there is no software with clie that will convert my CD to MP3, I have to look elsewhere?

Trying to listen to MP3 player on my Clie, on the ski slopes gives me about 1 hr of battery life, how do I extend the play life in cold weather?

Is the NR series discontinued? How is the NX or NZ series differ? Is the NR obsolete already?

There are alot of PC applications that can "rip" a CD into MP3 format for use of your Clie.  Try the MusicMatch JukeBox software available for free at www.musicmatch.com (http://www.musicmatch.com) to convert your CDs to MP3s.

You can install MP3s with the MS Import application on the Clie.  It mounts the memory stick as a removeable drive on your PC.  The MP3s can then be copied directly to the memory stick.  They should be placed in the Palm\Program\MSAUDIO directory of the memory stick.  This directory can be created by launching the Audio Player application on the Clie.  It looks for music files in this directory.

You should be able to play MP3s for close to 7 hours when only listening to MP3s and doing nothing else on the PDA.  Use th ehold button on the side of the Clie to deactivate the LCD screen when playing MP3s to reduce battery drain.

There are also third party applications available for the Clie that use the entire 320X480 screen. Go to http://www.clieuk.co.uk/cphiresplus.shtml for a list of the applications that support hi-res+.

The NR70 is discontinued, but it is not obsolete.

Thanks for the reply, Ill try all of your suggestions. You seem knowledgable in Sony's products; I am ultimately looking for a PDA with a larger screen than the 2 1/4" SQ screen so that I can browse the Internet for field engineers. Are the new Clie models more adaptable to cellular modems/and or WIFI?

The newer models of the Clie (NX and NZ) have the same screen size as the NR-series Clie, but both have a Compact Flash slot for a Sony CF card for wireless access to a network access point.  The Sony CF card is the only one that works in the slot at this time and I believe it costs around $100 US.  The NX Clies retail for $500 US without a camera and $600 US with a camera.

The new NZ90 that will be available at the end of the month also has built-in Bluetooth capabilities for use with other Bluetooth-enabled devices (i.e. mobile phones, etc.).  The NZ90 will retail for $800 US.

The NX and NZ have other features, but they are not related to wireless access.
