I have a severe case of the dreaded NR hinge malady and BestBuy has graciously agreed to exchange it for an in-store credit or an NX70V.

But, I am interested in the NZ90, but it seems way too bulky. I like the 2 meg camera which I will use. The NX70 has much of the same functionality, but the camera seems too limited, which again I want to use.

Now rumors of an NX80 release. Twist how soon of a release are we talking about and any word BestBuy is going to bring it out?

Also, another thread was posted which I can confirm as well. BestBuy has their NZ90s, NX70s on clearance. Of course, no one there knows why? Anyone here know?

One thing is going to continue to be a difference between the NZ90 ad the new NX. NZ90 is a 2 megapix camera which you can pull a 8x10 from if you want to. however the new NX is a 1.3 megapix camera, not quite the same. (the smaller file makes a nice 5x7 inch print though.)

I am sooo used to enjoying my NZ90 for all kinds of images that I would hate to go backwards to a lower resolution. particularly since my SLR's is 5+ megapix.

nz90 is a lot more expensive, but i'd go with it for now, if price is not the main issue. removable battery and better camera are worth it. the new nx's seem more transitional. or at least i'd wait until the bluetooth and memory questions were finally answered and put to rest.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you.

AS for the Bluetooth, one thing works for me. I purchased a bluetooth modem for my 6 weeks trip around the United states, first thing I would do every night at the motel was to plug it into the phone, then go and sit in the nearest recliner and let my NZ check my e-mail..... Yeah. THIS worked GREAT...!

I've done some searches on yahoo, and not much for bluetooth modems...
I found a few models but they are huge and seem to be for desktop computers or laptops... also very $$$.
To be honest I haven't used bluetooth on my NZ once, and I've owned my NZ since February/March... In fact I don't see myself using it much at all in the future either... there aren't really many reasons in my opinion to use bluetooth? There is a hard drive that uses bluetooth... that would be cool to transfer photos and such while on a trip, however this bluetooth harddrive still isn't available... it's been a prototype design that I keep reading about for about 8months to a year now. Seems like bluetooth still hasn't really caught on hugely? maybe it's still too new?

One awesome bluetooth device that's been out for a while (since Nov 2002) is the Emtac Bluetooth GPS. This is one of the best, if not the best, bluetooth receivers (most sensitive) on the market even when compared to industry leaders like Garmin.

Just wanted to let y'all know that there is at least one excellent use for the built in BT in the nz90 other than internet access. There's also a bluetooth portable keyboard by Flexis that's rumored to be on the market later this year.

Personally my Emtac BT GPS should arrive within a couple of days from an Ebay order (240 US.......retail is 399US).

The decision on whether to buy the NZ90/U or the NX80 depends on what features you want to have on your clie and how much you want to pay .

At the present time the PEG-NZ90 is Sony's top of the line PDA for the high end market. From April 2003 to the present there is very little information on the internet on whether the NZ90 will be replaced this year. If Sony is planning to replace it soon, its probably is the most closely guarded secret in the PDA market.

Having said that the PEG-NZ90 has features that the NX80 does not have such as a removable smart lithium Ion polymer battery, built in bluetooth( to conect various mobile devices without cables at 2.4Ghz) and a 2mp charged coupled device (CCD) 2x digital zoom camera which takes 1600x1200 dot pictures with a built in flash for poor light conditions. The camera is comparable to 2-2.1mp cameras worth $200-300 in photo shops although it cannot take the place of them. The image from the camera from the NZ90 can be printed on a 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 photo paper. Photos placed in the Clie Photo Album can be ported to a TV via supplied AV cables.

Extensive threads on the design problems of the NZ90 have been posted on the NZ Forum on Cliesource. The main issue are the poor location of the stylus on the side the screen, the fact that it can pop out and can easily be lost, the location of the hotsync port on the unit and that the rubberized cover can easily be broken. Other issues are the location of the CF-II slot, location & design of the power switch, insufficent RAM, the bulky size and weight. Despite these issues I went out and purchased an NZ90/U and never regreted it. Most NZ90 users on Cliesource just took better care of their units. There are numerous internet retailers that sell excellent carry cases, pda replacement packs, USB chargers/other important accessories for the NZ90. there are excellent programs to run applications of the MS, to change the look of the launcher and VG and tips how to get the most out your unit on the NZ Forums.

The NX80 has been posted on the SonyStyle.com (Sony USA website) for preorders before its avalibility some time next month (July). The U.S. price is $599. What are its features compared to the NZ90? In general it runs the Palm OS5 system via the Intel PXA-263, 200mhz processor which comes in a 100mhz/200mhz bus system versions, 32mb of ram (16mb avalible to the user). The NX80 uses a 1000ma battery which is reported to last 40% longer that the NX70 or 14 days. The unit has transreflective screen similar to that of the NZ90 with the inclusion of 4 launch buttons for the tablet mode position. It has a 1.3megapixel CCD camera with a 2x digital zoom which can rotate 300 degrees. it can take 1200x960 dot pictures which can fit on a 5x7 photo print paper. There are special programs to allow it to take daytime photos, an illuminator to take pictures in low light (which is not as good as the flash on the NZ90). It has a retractable CF-II slot, an extandable stylus near the top of the unit and a MS pro slot on the side. It is smaller and lighter than the NZ90 but heavier than the NX70.

The NX80 has a good assortment of software such as the Picsel Viewer, Documents to Go V5, a new VG program and other regular and trial ones found in the NZ90. The lack of built in bluetooth is a step back for the NX80 because if there are no MS or CF-II adaptors it can take advantage of this new emerging technology.

In the end the NX80 is moderate upgrade from the NX70 and lacks certain features found in the NZ90.

I cant speak to the Best Buy situation about the discounting/discontiuation of the NX70 and NZ90 in the U.S. Although Best Buy stores now operate in Toronto, they are still selling the NX70 and NZ90/U.

i would prefer dsc-u30 with tg-50 rather than nz90 ..

u30 is the newest model from sony .. about $180 or cheaper ..

tg-50 .. i found it $300 last time .. you still can find it at this price or cheaper now ..

since u30 is pretty big as you can say (unlike nz90 camera which is built in) .. you can use it as a key chain :p

Yeah... I was dissapointed that the NX80 do not have Bluetooth, it have proved to be very useful...! Though I also hope that Sony will continue to find ways to include at least 2 megapix cameras in future top of the line Clies... I simply LOVE that feature.
