View Full Version : What do you do when your ROM backup is "bad"?

I decided to restore my ROM because I had deleted the Address Book, Date Book, and Memo Pad and wanted them back in there, just in case. I had originally just moved them to RAM and then to MS, but when I copy them back over (or try reinstalling them again) I get an error when I try to launch them. Not a good sign. So, I did a hard reset, held my breath and tried to restore the ROM. Then I get a message that the ROM backup is "bad" and it can't restore it. So, I don't know what to do. I'm in the process of restoring all of my applications now, and it's not a huge deal at the moment, but someday I might need to restore the ROM and I won't be able to. So, what should I do? Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? Is there a way to at least get the built in apps (that I have on MS) back in ROM? Or at least have them work from RAM?

Also, I have a Best Buy warranty, and I'm afraid that because I've messed with the ROM, if something does happen to my Clie and I have to trade it in or have it sent in to Sony, they'll void the warranty. Do they even check for that?

Basically, how bad is this? :(

I messed with my rom, and when i sent mine back to sony for different repairs, they actually didn't really care, they jsut reflashed it back to the original.

Did you make sure to copy all the backup files bak? If the files are in the MS, just copy them back to the ram, and they should run. Restoring the rom from the jacksprat files would be impossible if the files are truly corrupted.

Do you mean copying the backup files or the actual applications? I've tried several times to copy the applications back to RAM but they won't run. I get a Memory NULL error (or something similar to that) and have to reset. I made a backup of the ROM on my computer, not on the the MS, but do you think that putting the backup on the MS and then copying to RAM would be more effective?

Also, is the reason that I can't put the built in apps back in RAM because of the stubs (possibly the same reason that one needs the no-stub version of JackSprat to put the NX apps on the NR)?

Thanks for the help. :)
