This has been the worse week for me.

First my Clie gets soaked in a thunderstorm. Then in an attempt to dry it i use a hair drier. Now the black plastic strip at the top of the screen is warped. So their goes any attempt to use my BB Extended Warranty.

So, now I am reduced to going to SONY for repair or buying a new or refurbished Clie?

What would be the best route?

Sorry to hear.
You will probably have to bite the bullet and pay for Sony to repair it. Unless you think you can convince the store guy that several components spontaneouly combusted causing a large amount of simultaneous energy warping your otherwise working fine Clie.

Maybe you can tell them that your Clie has been fried?

Seriously, maybe you can sweet talk one of the sales people quietly before spending any money, beg if you have to. The worst that can happen is that they so no, or they may surprise you after hearing your tale of woe.

A refurb might be your best bet and still have covered under the BB warranty.

Never hurts to try to sucker bb sales people. That's why you purchased an extended warranty. Also, if it hasn't been too long, try your credit card company. Or if you have home owners or renters insurance, they actually cover damage to items outside of the home.

Well. I did purchase it through my credit card. And I have Homeowners insurance.

Yea, my credit card company gives me a 90 day warranty on stupidity/obviously my fault/anything against anything I buy with it.

I could slam dunk my Clie into the bathroom fill it with water and then throw it on the barbeque, if it is under 90 days I get a new one. I love my credit card.

The only problem there is that most people have a deductible around $500, which would make it cheaper just to buy a brand new Clie, unless you've already made a claim and met your deductible for the year.

It's not so much the getting wet but the trying to use it while it's still wet. Better (future reference) to put it somewhere warm and dry (top of fridge or tv?) for a few days, preferably with a fan blowing on it.

yea, you are right. I should never have turned it on.

But now I am screwed. I could probably have gotten away with taking it to BB for a replacement. But their is now way they are gonna accept the warped plastic caused by the hairdryer.

I thought BB and Comp USA had the same type of replacement policy, the guy at Comp USA said I could run over it with the car and they'd replace it, he was just trying to sell the policy more than likely.

Well, best of luck with the replacement.

And I know what you mean about the Game Boy thing. For years I would rinse off my Toyota truck engine when I washed the car. Never had a bit of trouble doing it. And it kept the gunk level down for the simple maintenance and checks we all do as often as the manufacturer recommends. So I trade the Toyota on a BMW 318i. First time I rinse the engine of the BMW off, it won't start afterwards. Go figure. The dealer says to me "oh, no, you should never do that."

Oh well. I got rid of the BMW ... got the Acura, and haven't decided about rinsing its engine off.

No, I believe the CompUSA one is more comprehensive, also more expensive.
