View Full Version : help for NX70V and Palm neophyte...
Hello,
I have just had a NX70V. I am completely neophyte. I never had a Palm. Where can I find Doc for Palm OS to understand where are my files, how it walks, and some questions like this ?
Thank you

I don't remember any documentation for the Palm Desktop. There is the built-in help file. You could try nosing around the Palm web site. www.palm.com
Thanks for your reply.
I'm really neophyte : how can I find & read the build-in help-file ?

Well, I'll give a little tutorial on the basics as I see it.
There is no folder structure for internal memory. All you apps and files are just there. The built-in launcher and 3rd party launchers (*cough* zlauncher *cough*) allow you to then organize the applications into categories, such as games, office and whatnot so that they show up in the different areas on the graphical interface.. This keeps some organization behind a potentially chaotic environment.
Only .prc and .pdb files can go into internal memory.
I believe at least 90% of palm apps that use editable databases (like the address book or datebook) can also seperate individual items into categories, so you can choose a category and view only those items rather than scrolling through everything in the "All" category.
There are two ways to install programs (.prc) and databases (.pdb), hotsync and through the Memory stick. If you have an NX70 you want a memory stick.
Hotsync places the .prc or .pdb files into internal ram by default, but you can have it hotsync to the memstick (very slow don't bother).
Use MSimport to put .prc and .pdb files right on the card then use a file manager (Clie files is already on there, but Zlauncher has a nicer built-in one) to copy them to the internal memory. Once it is on the internal memory, if it is a program it will show up somewhere in whatever launcher app you are using and you can run it.

I am sorry, for some reason I saw Palm Desktop in your post which isn't there.
Two site you can look at:
www.launchplug.com and http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/palm.htm
To add to the above post, you use MS Import on the Clie in concert with a file manager on the desktop PC to transfer files to the memory stick while it's in the Clie.
