I was caught in a horrible storm today and I placed my Palm in my Backpack. But the damn rain soaked through and the palm got wet.

Now all I get in the green power light and no screen. I do have Best Buy Extended Warranty. Does this apply?

What should i do?

Well, unfortunately you shouldn't have turned it on.
As you soon as you could have you should have removed the battery and let it just air dry for several days.
I am afraid it is probably toast or at least not reliable now.
I don't know Best Buys policies and what not so I can't comment on that.
Sorry.

Let it dry out good for a few days and then get it replaced. You could try and disconnect the battery in the meantime. I wouldn't trust it from here on in, so best to get a new one.

Make sure there is no obvious signs of water damage and don't tell them what you did. Tell them also that you can't live without it so you can get it replaced right away. If it gets sent back, the tech maybe able to spot the water damage. Usually water damage is not covered under warranty.

tuff break

This is why I keep a zip-loc bag in my pack, living in Florida for the past 20 years has taught me the value of them.

Keep your fingers crossed because they dont like to cover water damage. I have had a cell phone rejected for warranty repair just for the sweat off my face. They prolly will end up covering it but there is a chance they wont. If it was just Sony then I would say you are screwed, in this case you got BB as the middle man so you should be OK....

should not be a problem at all if w/ bb psp... talk calmly to the rep and say i need a new one cuz this clie wouldnt turn on suddenly (if its in immacualte condition, tell em i didnt drop or anything...) ... if they ever BS you which there is high likely some do than tell em that this PSP should cover it blah blah and if you dont make me happy by the time i exit the door, i WILL call the district manager right now and will take action. THAT really takes care of it:)

I'm not sure about BB's service plan with PDAs, but with my cell phones, I played dumb and said it just stopped working. I got my replacement.

If your NX doesn't appear rusty or have condensation under the screen, you could probably just play "dumb" too. They won't know it went swimming.

Here are some hints to survive water damage:

1. After water exposure is noted, immediately remove/disconnect the power supply/battery.

2. DO NOT dry the unit by "letting it dry out": this will concentrate ionic and other contaminants in the water as evaporation proceeds and lead to short circuits and oxidation of the circuit board traces.

3. Bring the unit to your repair center ASAP while wet.

4. If you can't bring the unit to the repair center, then you should rinse the unit in distilled water as soon as possible. This should be available at any grocery store or service station.

5. The service center (or you if your are skilled and the unit is out of warranty already) will open the case and rinse with distilled water to remove contaminants, and only then blow the water off with compressed air. The next step may be rinsing the components with 70% methyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol that you may find in any drug store), which will displace the water molecules, followed by drying with compressed air. Other chemicals (more costly) can be used for the same purpose.

6. Water damage to internal companents is easily recognized by any service tech so your warranty may not help you no matter what you tell them.

You shouldn't have put it in your backpack. I read a lot of stories where people do that and their palms end up destroyed/not working.

You should turn it on it's screen to dry it out, worked for me before.

BTW, I bought an Otterbox for just these problems and so I can take mine to the pool and beach, you might want to take a peek at them:)

There are two cases, this is the one I bought:)

When I used to be run a comunications shop we had a lot of luck with immersed pagers and such by letting them soak in a bath of denatured alcohol for a few days then letting them dry for a few days. For really sever cases we used an ultrasonic cleaner similar to the ones used by jewelry stores to cleaned oxidized growths from the IC chip paks. 95% success rate.
