View Full Version : Realistic Specs of a New T-series Clie

These are the specs I believe will be in the next T-series Clie:

320x480 VG screen
Palm OS 5
MP3 Player
200 Mhz ARM Processor (possibly only 150Mhz)
MS Pro compatible slot
16MB ROM
16MB RAM
A non-removable battery
It will NOT have integrated bluetooth
The same factor as the T665c
It will cost around $350 - $400

These are not all of the things that I want in the next T-series, but this is what I believe it will be. Additionally the Bluetooth Memory Stick will be released in the US the same day as this Clie.

Just my predictions. What are yours?

That's a realistic list; I'd buy it. I'm not so sure, though, that Sony will not just drop the T-series all together. I hope not, though. It's the perfect form-factor.

I think that is a very close guess.:)

Sony might even add a voice recorder and move the speaker to the front.

Don't forget the voice recorder. I think an F.M. tuner isn't asking for too much.

That makes sense. Looks accurate to me. It has a perfect balance of features.

Click on the forth button from the left, on the second row of buttons with orange arrow.

It will be using VZ 66 MHz. Technically one can argue this *IS* the replacement of T. Depending on how you look at it.

One observation - there seems to be a welcoming improvement on battery life. I would take the manufacturer specs grain o' salt, yet the figure looks good in relative sense.

Geez, I just love that smoke color cover :)

BT MS has been available in Australia for 2 months....400AUD...which is about 236.56 todays rates. Whats going on with that? You guys should hassle your resellers...

I have a T665 and love it, but I seriously doubt that we will see another T-series come out. The biggest problem with the T-series has been battery life, which has arisen because the small form-factor didn't leave much room for a battery. IMHO, you can't get VG, OS5, or any of that stuff in a T-series form factor AND have a battery life of more than an hour or two. I could be wrong, and honestly, I'd love it if I were, but I just don't see an OS5 T-series model coming out.

I believe it would have BT built in, voice recorder, and CF slot.

It might have a voice recorder, that probably wouldn't add much cost and then it would have everything (and more) that the TT has. As for Bluetooth I really doubt it, it adds a lot of cost and Sony aims their Clies to be Personal Entertainment Organizers, making bluetooth slightly off focus (not too much because the NZ90 has it). I am absolutely sure that there won't be a CF slot in the next T series Clie. The next Clie will most likely have to be thicker to accommodate a more powerful battery, adding a CF slot will make it even larger, ruining the T series focus of being slim and sleek.

Asking for an FM tuner isn't too much, but Sony won't put one in. The T series won't have any features that the NX/NZ series doesn't.

I agree -- that does seem realistic to me, too.

Personally, I doubt I'd upgrade to it -- I have a T665C right now, and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The virtual grafitti area would be the big appeal; OS 5 would be a minor plus. But nothing that makes me want to rush out and get it.

I, too, love the form factor (just not a clamshell person), and would love to see the T-series continue. The question is, are a metal case, virtual screen and/or Palm OS 5 features enough to cause customers who would buy an SJ-33 to move up a notch?

I'd agree, except for the claims that Sony has made about better battery life in the SJ-33 model. I'm wondering if they can use the same technique for a T-Series replacement -- though, as you point out, a Virtual-Grafitti screen would eat up more of the real estate. (I'm not sure OS5 is a factor -- i.e., would the ARM processor (a) use up more room inside and (b) use up more battery power (at least, then the current T665C dragonball processor)?)

I enjoy the OS4 Palm, anything more seems un-necessary. Viva le Launcher X :)

If they came out with a T-685C with simply a Virtual Graphity area and better battery usage I would snap it up like candy.

I think the device might have the same height and width, but thicker. I'd change the 16MB of RAM to be 32MB if possible. The NX and NZ both only have 11MB of user accessible memory and I hope the next Sony OS5 device will have more than that.

It's not so much OS5. It's the extra 134MHz that would possibly come with it. The OS5 devices seem SO much more snappy.

And I thought that Bluetooth only added about $5 to the manufacturing cost of a device. It's on the retail shelves that the cost jumps to an extra $100+.

I've gone back and forth on this over the past few days, but I've concluded personally that the T line won't be dropped. The NZ is over-the-top and the S(?) line just seems chintzy to me. Without the T, people would be forced to get the Palm Tungsten or Garmin, and you know that Sony won't have any of that.

I really doubt you'll see 320x480 in a T-series. Too much battery drain and too close to the NX-60. I'd guess hires+ stays with the NX/NZ series exclusively until their next update.

Sorry, no virtual Graffiti. In fact, no Graffiti at all! Instead, it uses a built-in keyboard. It also has integrated Bluetooth.

No graffiti at all!!!

I have a N760... and was waiting for a good T-series clie to upgrade right away...

But if it has just a pathetic keyboard i'm not buying it...

I'll have to wait for another one or begin thinking about getting a Tungsten...

Come on Sony!!!

Well, I'll vote with my wallet: in other words, I'll stick with my T665C for as long as I can (or until someone else comes out with what I want). If it breaks, and the T665C is no longer available, an SJ-33 for me.

There. I think that covers all the contingencies.

Can't answer a, but b is not an issue, some of the low to midrange ARM processors are both cheaper and consume less power than the 68K-based dragonballs.
