I have been using my NX70V for about two weeks with no problems on my Dell with XP. Yesterday when I tried to use MS IMPORT it started crashing my computer (shut down suddenly and then restart). No other USB devices are causing this problem and I can still Hot Synch with no problems. I tried to reinstall the device driver and MS EXPORT but I couldn't even get this to work properly (kept saying driver failed to install, but it would show up on my ADD/REMOVE programs list). Talked with SONY rep for about an hour on the phone. Their final advice was to reformat my PC  or contact Dell (I don't fancy another hour or more to be told they can't help me)since they say it is a problem with my PC. Can someone help me? Can someone tell me how to completely remove the device driver which doesn't want to uninstall. Is this a PC problem or Sony problem.

You may want to reference <this (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16680)> thread.
I believe that this is a Sony driver problem. I have the same problem when trying to move large quantities of files. And by "wuantity" I mean "number" not "size" of files. I have moved 85MB and 100MB files to and from the MS without issue. It's when I try to move a large number of files that it sometimes crashes. (So in this case, size truely doesn't matter!)
Anyway, I have had this problem on a Windows 2000 Pro box and two separate Windows XP Pro boxes, and one of the XP Pro boxes was a new, "clean" install. And to reiterate, the symptoms are while copying files, the computer simply reboots--no warining, no messages, just reboots.
My desire is to simply be able to "mirror" my MS to my PC for backup purposes, but I have yet to be successful with this. I have heard that using a MemoryStick reader may work, but I haven't tried this.

I may try the memory stick reader (can you suggest a good one - not too expensive but good).
A few days before this problem I had been transferring a larger than normal number of files to and from the MS.
Thanks for the suggestion.

look on places like ebay. You can pick up a multi card reader for about 20 bucks. Get a USB unit, then your computer sees it like an additional drive, then just drag n drop onto your card. They all usually support MS, MMC CF SD.
Cheers!

Did you try and disable auto restart? Win XP has a nasty habit of doing that and you can't the error. I disabled mine a long time ago with no ill effects!
Control Panel - System - Advanced - Start Up & Recovery - Settings - Automatically Restart, uncheck it! It won't fix your problem, but may give some further clues.

Thanks for the disable auto-restart suggestion: I may try it.
I have contacted Dell and they, of course, are saying that it is a Sony problem, but will help me fix it for $50!
I am about to go to Circuit City where, you may laugh at this, I am going to ask them to GIVE me a memory stick reader so that I can use the MS for import/export until I can solve the problem (short of a complete reformat).
Also noticed another posting today where others are having MS IMPORT problems with XP.

Especially those who upgraded from a previous operating system.

I may have solved my problem (though I hate to think what all those crashes and System Restores have done to my PC): I did get a Sony memory stick reader/writer from Circuit City (not for free, but significantly reduced). When I put the MS in it, my PC would crash yet again. At that point I didn't know what to do, but after a while I figured I should try reformating the MS. I THINK IT WORKED! The really odd thing is that I had tried the same MS on another PC running Windows 98 SE and that didn't have any problems dealing with it.

It don't take much if it sees something it doesn't like. Hopefully it's fixed now, that would be a good thing :)

I may have discovered something else that may be relevant to the experience of others: When trying to Reinstall MS EXPORT using the auto run set up on the Sony CD, everything goes fine until it installs the driver. Just when you think everything is OK you get the message that the driver failed to install, but if you look on the PC its right there with all the other programs! So I got rid of it yet again, and explored the Sony CD to see if I could find the driver myself and install it manually. I did find it, it did install OK and everything appears to be working OK whether I use the MS IMPORT or the Memory Stick Reader/Writer.
