Sticky Hinge/grinding hinge

Hi,

I own a NR70V, after 7 months and approx 30 uses. The unit has two problems:

1) the units hinge grinds when it opens
2) displays "HOLD" and suspends when I flip the screen
to use it in tablet mode.

I sent it back to SONY who wants $300 to fix, they say the harness need to be replaced. Has anyone here had a similar problem ?

PS Anyone know where I can buy spare parts for the clie ?

hmmm...have you tried opening it up yourself and lubricating the hinge? tughtening the screw underneath the audio plug will also help the hinge problem.

Lubricating the hinge did reduce the grinding - Thanx

Any thoughts on the second issue?
I read in one of the posts that the "flip" switch could be broke.
Where Can I find a listing of sony part numbers or equiv?

I also think the problem is due to the flip switch. However, i have no idea where you can find the part numbers. Maybe you can ask the Sony service centre how much would it cost to replace only the flip switch instead of the whole harness?

I had the "flip switch" problem on my NR70... ended up replacing the switch three times.

My 3 yr. old had "overtwisted" the twist part of the hinge...

If you can twist it past "flat" I'd recommend letting sony fixit for you...

My sony is loose in the twisting hinges...Anyway to tighten it?
