I have encoded with the image convertor and the kinoma. I ripped a few dvd's "for personal purposes" and turned them into both formats. The image files are smaller than the kinoma. I use a nice ripper to get the dvd movies to a gig. Then I use various prgrams to get them small enough to convert. Which convertor do you guys perfer to use to watch movies on your clie. I have a Nx. The video seems a little clearer with image convertor also. I just wanna know if I am doing something a little different than others.

I prefer the Image Converter personally. The video is very crisp and the file sizes are great.

Ditto. Even though I am on a Mac, I use VirtualPC to encode to MQV. Slow but the result is worth it. Smaller and clearer. The Audio and Video also sync better with Image Converter. I also like the thumbnail view in MoviePlayer.

Whilst I like the full screen size of Kinoma, I prefer the quality using Image convertor.

Now if only I could get movies to work off my CF card in HQ mode, and fill the full screen........

Can the Image Converter convert to landscape like Kinoma?

yes, landscape is possible. But not the complete full screen since there's still a seek bar.(since I don't use additional hack to hide those seek bars or the VG) :)

I too had problems with Kinoma producer until I emailed them and got the following info:

Use QuickTime 6 Pro to open the file.
Click the Movie tab and then go to Video properties.
Check the High Quality box and save.
Now encode the Movie in Kinoma Producer and stick to 15 fps at around 700 on the bitrate.

Much better results once I did this.

I also find that things sound better using image converter.

If you have an OS5 machine you should be using Image Converter. I do video/film for a living and also do tons of compressing for other people for web use. Kinoma movies can look just as good as IC but they are generally at least twice as big.
