View Full Version : Simple Excel table vs. Databases like DVD storing or expense tracking
I don't get it:
Why do one have to buy an app which automatically calculates 1+1. Or gives space for storing your DVD's in a table? Why do I need a calorie tracker if I have a excel table on the palm?
Nearly everyone has Doc2Go, QuickOffice or similar. Even if not abacus(excel like) is freeware. I enter the name, next the data and the last I tell it to summarize it. If I need something I can search for it via context menu. I even have one to one access on the Desktop.
Unbelievable why one should buy such things.

Its a matter of convienience.... Why would someone pay for fast food when they get less quality, but get it fast? because people want fast.... You can make a spreadsheet do almost anything, same with handyshopper (free shopping database and more)... still people want someone ELSE to do that effort. JMHO....
That would mean:
I make an effort to earn money, but instead of spending it on my living or what else, I spend it on convenience not to work on an excel table, just to ge more spare time?!
Hmm, if that is one of the meanings of live I don't get it.
Strange, I thought money is worth spending on better things(how about a new keyboard for the NX?). A visit to the theatre?
lol, mankind is so stupid- me too, unfortunately.

not so simple as that... if it were we'd all do our own maintenance of electronics, autos, and everything else. It does come down to time though. I am not a big one on fast food as I do not want ot give up "some" things just for extra time. However, I do look at my time as being worth what it is at work. If it costs me two hours of work to do something that would only cost $10, dang, I'd give up the $10. :)
however, if it is something I enjoy doing, like designing a database, I'll spend the time to do it as "fun time". :) I do try to spend my money frugally, I invested in a database program so I can do general purpose stuff, I also have a spreadsheet, again for general purpose stuff. :)
Hm, I think you do make an exception. I think I'd design a small app with this functionality and sell it for a few bucks, then I'll become rich. Hehe.

My favorite example of this is the tip calculation app. Assuming I haven't heard the trick about doubling the 7% tax (US) , is firing up an app really easier than startng the calc and punching in purchase*.15 ?????
