I've been reading the video threads and dreaming of owning an NZ90. It could happen soon. But if you're converting the movies to 350x2xx, well those would almost fit on any other handheld. I'd like to see movies in widescreen 480x270 (16:9). Is there anything preventing viewing movies this way (Landscape)? The software some of you use accepts custom size input. One post said movies can't be over 128 MB, another disagreed. Anyone try this?

If this is the deciding factor in you getting a NZ.
GOGETITNOW!!!
Although it might not be exactly 16:9 ratio, you CAN view movies in landscape mode!

full screen? all 480 pixels? That would be 1 1/2 times the size of the picture in, say, an ipaq or high end palm.

If I had the money, I would, but I don't and I'm fine with my NR (for now)

NRs do widescreen, too.
On Sony's Kinoma dl page the MIB II, MR. Deeds and Spiderman trailers are all widescreen.
(As I complained, there's still about a 1/4"-1/8" border around them, but I think that's b/c they were converted that way.)
And both the Vivid and FullScreen apps (on PGHQ) let you snap and/or shoot your own shots/video and playback in widescreen / fullscreen (to the very last pixel on all 4 edges!)

I haven't gotten the DVD ripping part to work yet, but check the threads in the video section for details. several people seem to have gotten it working with their info.
I don't know of a way to do what you're asking yet.
The NX and the NZ can both play movies in landscape full screen but as far as I know they just scale up the tiny portrait conversion. The problem is the conversion software doesn't allow you to convert to use the full real estate of the screen. G
Good ol' Sony!

... has the T3 video that goes full screen left & right & almost to the top & bottom (about 1/8" from edges), but it's just a bit granier than I wish it was at this size.

Do you mean landscape or portrait? If landscape that makes sense because 16:9 = 480x270, not 320.

Yeah, LS.
I just tried the Matrix lobby scene vid. today (RRRRRRRROCKS!!!), and it's similar, tho the quality seems a bit sharper.
I guess 16:9 is close enough....

I have a nx70. I love it. I just wanted to know if you need the nz or just had to have it(want). They are the same thing except for the camera difference and blue tooth. Some may say thats a big differnece but i am sure most of us travel and take our nice expensive digi cams to get those great pic. and as far as the blue tooth. I know people are using it, but unless you have a phone, another piece of equipment with or you are planning to get an item with blue too. I feel it is a waste of money. Hey it's my opion. Not saying it is wrong to do so. It's your money. Spend it on what you want. I have the means to buy it, but I just don't see a need to. I even use my clie cam on the job, but if i really need a fine pi i would use my seperate digi cam. More options and better settings. JUST MY OPION

I think there is some confusion of video encoding methods. The 320x240 movies that are done with Image Converter for the OS5 Clies can be fit full screen, but they are streched. The Image Converter can't do any higher-res though. Kinoma can do 480x320. Not sure about 480x270 though.
And Image Converter does have a 128MB limit, but it will automatically split your movie into 128MB slices if it goes longer. Not sure if Kinoma has a limit.
