I am currently using the CJKOS v4.5 beta 1 for my NX60, but I'm having some problems using the Japanese writing system. I can write hiragana and katakana just fine, but I can't find any way to get Kanji to output. There is zero support for this on CJKOS's own site, help files, or any other web sites. Does anyone have this version that knows how to work this thing properly? Also, if any of you had previous versions of this program, do you know if such a function to output kanji exists? Since this is only a beta version, I suspect not all the features are included yet, making it somewhat of a crippled application.

Also, if anyone has experience with other Japanese capable word processors or OS add-ons/hacks, please post them. I attempted to install J-OS 1.9 and other versions, but all have ended in complete crashed of my clie (which could only be solved with a hard reset and memory clear). My only other solution to this is to have CJKOS installed to decode the ASCII code for Japanese and then have a Japanese version of some word processor installed on my system. The only problem is that I can't find a suitable word processor (free) to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, I have no experience with SJKOS, so can't help you there. But in terms of trying to get Japanese input working on the NX, here are a few suggestions:

Go to the Simple-Palm webpate (www.simple-palm.com), and go to the *Japanese* version of the site. The English version hasn't been updated recently. In any case, this is the page by the author of J-OS. The reason why J-OS doesn't work on the NX is that it is neither hi-res compatible or OS5 aware. However, there is now a version available for the hi-res Clies, which is called J-Suites. This is probably not OS5 ready yet, but is worth a shot. The other thing you might try is J-OS for TT, which should be both OS5 and hi-res aware. I haven't tried it, but is certainly worth a shot.

As for Japanese software, a good place to look is Muchy.com. A very well organized collection of Palm software in general, but you should be able to find Japanese compatible editors there.

THANK YOU! I just did some experimentation with a combo install of the J-OS Tungsten T version plus the CJKOS v4.5 beta 1 with fantastic results. I use the J-OS as the actual interface for the Japanese language support, and the CJKOS acts as a decoder for the ASCII representation of each character. If anyone wants to know how to get this working on their NX, post a reply here and I'll give you some direction.

damn...I can't seem to find any cracks for this program (J-OS), and I can't register it since it requires me to buy a it from a japanese site.

Where did you find CJKOS v4.5?
I was unable to find it on the developers website.

I used J-OS 1.9 on my Visor and LOVED it!
I was able to read all of my Nihongo email and memos.
I have greatly missed this since moving to the Clie.

I just downloaded the J-OS for TT and will try it alone first.

What functionality does CJKOS give you above what you get from J-OS for TT?

Thanks for any help!

I can't register it since it requires me to buy a it from a japanese site.

There is contact information on his site, you should probably send him an email letting him know that you are using the program (and that there are other people outside of Japan using it!) that would like to register. I've emailed him before and he is very responsive and nice. I think there is a good chance he will work with you

I believe a company called ArkUSA <http://www.arkusa.com/> sold lisences to J-OS in the US. Perhaps they can help you with obtaining a legit copy of the new version.

I just searched CJKOS 4.5 beta and found it on some chinese website. If you want the link I can find it again and post it here, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find. I use CJKOS to decode the text that J-OS produces. For some reason, when I disable CJKOS and only use J-OS, everything becomes unreadble, so I need both on at the same time. Btw, I'm still using the CJKOS beta 1.

I will attempt to register this version via email to him, but if not, then I guess it's back to square one with finding a way to write/display Japanese text.

Otakud, lemme know if you successfully register CJKOS 4.5, I emailed Du YongTao asking if there is a Palm OS5 compatible version of CJKOS, and he replied no...

If anyone has a better way to display Chinese characters on their NX, lemme know...

Thanks,
roy

Roy,

If you just want Traditional Chinese characters, try PalmDragon at http://www.pd.com.tw

They have a beta for NX. I actually like their fonts better than CJKOS....

What is CJKOS?

What is CJKOS?

Chinese, Japanese, Korean OS

It is a way to display/enter C,J, or K characters on Palm.

I used to use J-OS 1.9(Japanese OS) on my Handspring visor to read my Japanese emails and memos but it only works on pre palmOS v4.0 handhelds. This is the first way that I have heard of to read my email and memos on my Clie'

I have looked again and have been unable to find the CJKOS beta that you are talking about. If you would post a link many of us would be happy. Thank you for figuring this out!

Thank you!

I now have CJKOS 4.5beta and JOS for TT loaded and they work great!

There is a slight conflict with YiShow in that it moves some of my progreams (cliememo, cliecamera, cliefiles) to the unfiled area and won't let me move them, but I can deal with that.

Now we just need to figure out how to register before the 30 trial runs out.

I recently attemped to register the Japanese version of J-OS for the Tungsten T. No go. I was able to get to the site to purchase it and all the way up until the registration page where it had me input address and such. Then it asked for my country and the drop down menu only have one option...Japan. So unless I have a Japanese address and credit card, it appears I won't be able to register this version at all. Kinda annoying. I emailed the guy who made J-OS and asked if I'd be able to register it because I'm in the U.S., but no response so far.
Does anyone know if the 4.5 release (official final release) of CJKOS is out? Or just how to operate kanji on the beta? I can do everything bu Kanji with the beta. CJKOS doesn't seem to really expire...it still works after 30 days, but I know J-OS doesn't (I tried changing my Clie date 30 days forward.). So we have 1 month to figure this thing out. Anyone have any suggestions?

How did you figure out how to input Katakana with CJKOS? I never could figure that out. But I enjoy using it anyway.

I got my copy (4.5) from http://www.dyts.com/en/, which has a link for purchasing.

Cheers!

Chinese/Japanese recognition? You should check out the decuma from the new NX73/80, the recognition is very smooth indeed when you are writing complex characters. (Kanji)
But not so good for English input, I find the regular graffiti input much faster with the strokes. hope this helps.

Not sure of a Chinese version though since Sony don't make Chinese OS. :D

Decuma does have a chinese version on their webiste, but it's not included in the new Clie.

alternatively you can try PalmDragon for chinese handwriting recognition:

actually, decuma is only good for complex Kanji types input, but the English character input isn't so good at all. after playing with decuma's English input for a while, you'd realize that it's better to use the original graffiti input with single strokes.
Then when you've to input Kanji switch back to Decuma. :D

Otakud,
I've spent a way too long trying to figure out how to input Kanji with CJKOS on my NX-60. Any details would be greatly appreciated. Chinese works fine though. Do I need the appropriate fonts, databases, etc for Japanese?

Thanks.
pablo.
