View Full Version : What should I do? Clie vs Girlfriend

My GF keeps dropping my NX-60. She has used it three times and dropped it twice.

1) it was on her lap in the car. as she got out of the car it fell off her lap on the hard pavement
2) she was using it in class and accidently knocked it off her desk.

Thank god for the case

One more thing - she had it in her purse with some TWIX. The chocolate smudged all over the case.

I have revoked her CLIE priveledges, but it will only be a matter of time before she starts whining about needing it?

Is my CLIE more important to me than my GF? what should i dio

Tough decision. LOL

Anyone esle have any stories about there significant others not caring about their "toys"?

Why does your GF need your clie? Does she keep her addresses on there? Or is it just for entertainment? If it is just for entertainment, why dont you buy her an SJ33 or a used nr70?

Hey VERY important.
If you purchase your lady a Clie I would purchase a replacement plan for it also...
In fact I would purchase the longest period of time plan since she has such a drop and go personality.

My friend, you have not trained her correctly. My girlfriend knows better then to even look at my toys the wrong way....I don't know where you and yours are from, but my GF loves her cutesy little fragile glass or wood little crafts moi hah hah hahhhh now let me go before she sees me writing this lol

My ex-GF always played Bejeweled on my NR70v. To this day, whenever I see her she has to play a few games of Bejeweled for old times sake.

My wife thinks I'm nuts for the amount of time I spend using my NX-70V, and would never make me feel justified by asking me to use mine for anything! :)

I agree: Get her her own Clie. In fact, I have a very slightly used SJ33 for sale if you're interested...

I say she should buy her own. If she doesn't spend her own money on it, she'll just drop it in a vat of chocolate or something.

My GF plays Bejeweled on it every day, so I make HER buy the screen protectors now ... :)

I think the easiest thing is getting her a PDA that she can abuse .... but I know she won't use it that much. I have had my CLIE for about three months and she only "touched" it twice.

The main reason she uses it is for the voice recording functionality at school. I could get her a voice recorder but they are so limited in terms of space ....

Dump the girl friend, if she has no respect for your valuable and precious belongings, then she won't have respect for you either. I lived with someone for 23 years and all I ever heard was that my stuff was crap, to put it nicely! Anything that diverts attention away from the opposite sex, is automatically the enemy! Your freedom is everything :D!

Give the scratched, sticky old one and get yourself the newest thing going (that does has the features you want). I give my wife my older versions. Kinda helps justify the new purchase.

there are 3 billion girls in this world, and your clie-abuser is only one of them. I side with n2ifp, find someone who will respect your belongings. If she treats your (expensive) belongings that way, what makes you think she will treat you any differently?

LOL, I say if you have a girlfriend, sometimes that option seems VERY tempting....unfortunately nobody has invented some of those great accessories women have for our electronics.....if someone ever does, he will be a very rick man :)

My woman does not touch ANY of my stuff.

She knows her role. Give a woman what she really wants (and it varies from specimen to specimen) and you will have no problem putting her in her place.

Oh, I gave up sexism. The b!tches HATE when I act like that.

I think this boils down to a geek/non-geek thing. I'm the 'house geek' and nobody touches the computer settings or the PDAs that don't belong to them . . . Of course, handmedown PDAs ARE a wonderful thing . . . the sig other got my N760 when I 'moved up', my 16 yo has the Prism & my dad got the IIIxe . . . I HAVE to get a new PDA soon, my 7 yo wants one to use . . . lol!

If she can't carefully handle something that costs around $500, how does she expect you to invest around 10x that amount on a ring for her?  I'd call that the litmus test and she FAILED (or whatever the bad result of a litmus test is).;)

My recently-ex-GF left the 665 I bought for her in the front seat of her car when she valet parked recently.  Any surprise that it was gone when she came back?!  We broke up the next morning [but not because of the 665... LOL], though I did give her my old 665 so she could use her data, pathetic sap that I am.

She gets sworn in as an attorney later today - and she better remember my kindness when she starts making the big bucks!!!:D

I'm with Yellow Rose - it is geek vs. non-geek thing.

Get a strap or something similarand make her use it when she borrows your clie. You could try holding something of hers hostage if you feel the need:D

Ditto:)

I am the geek here, but I do have a harder time as my hubby won't use a Clie, except to get into mine and mess it all up (he does this to the PC too:() so justifying new ones is a problem for me.

I do have a T615 that my 7yr old uses, an extra T615 for me for programs that refuse to run on the NX70 and a N610 that my 5 and 2 yr olds share.

BTW for the GF with the clutzy fingers and for all of you others that would dump a great girl for touching your prized posession (and I DO understand the anxiety and how the heart starts pumping when they even look like they are going to touch your Clie) try this, I just bought one and have high hopes for it:

I have not read most of the replies but I have a GF that likes to use it also.

I simply stress that the CLIE costs 4 times more than the amount in my bank account and that if broken I would probably cry in public:p
I don't think its to much to bug her A LOT about how dropping it is not acceptable, its not a casio digital date planner its a very expensive piece of equipment.

Ecktually, I'm incredibly happily married.

Now.

I wasn't, at one time. And that was agony.

B'sides, the comment was in jest, piling onto all the other (mostly) humorous misogynistic comments being posted here.

For the record, my wife doesn't understand my love of tech/toys, but supports my right to buy myself what I want (provided bills are paid, etc) -- she even gave me an iPod for xmas last year.

Now That's a helluva woman!

Not sure why you'd even consider marrying someone who has proven she has no respect for your things. Do you think it'll get any better after you buy the ring?

Egads, she WHINES and drops your expensive personal property?!!! I'm a wife, and even from the feminine perspective or at least MY version of the feminine perspective, that just would send me running for the nearest exit. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to hear someone whine to use something or do something after abusing the privilege.

I say let her whine. The revocation of Clie privileges should be permanent, unless she grows up and demonstrates some respect for your property. If she whines and whines and whines, think about if that is the sound you want to hear the rest of your life. Everybody whines. But some folks don't know when to turn it off.

ChuToy
06-03-2003, 01:14 PM
p.s...doesn't she have any money of her own? Why do you have to buy her a ring AND a pda? Gads! I hope she is reciprocating the generosity and that she has a lot of stellar qualities we're not seeing from your one brief post. LOL!

I'm lucky and my wife has no fascination for my gadgets. She knows they're fun and useful for me and lets me play with them all I want. Her eyes do glaze over though when I mention new models of Clies are out and we should go to Best Buy:D

At first, I was going to tell you to ditch her but, as I read the posts, I realized you are serious about her. As someone who has been thru a divorce (now happily married for 18 years), please think twice about living with her lack of taking care of her things for the rest of your life.

If you still believe you want to marry her, then teach her to use the strap. If she lays the PDA down, like on a desk, then tie the strap to something. That is what I do.
