View Full Version : Camera Uses

I've seen a lot of threads that say that the camera is just a toy. Now, the NX camera is much better than the NR, and I like the zoom feature. I wouldn't use it to take pictures at my daughters' wedding, but for casual pics, it seems just fine. The ability to video is cool. But what do you use it all for? Here are a few of my uses:

Taking shots of contacts and attaching the file to their address in the phone book (great for people like me who forget faces). Also great when you want to show somebody who it is that they are meeting.

I buy/sell real esate, and this is great for taking "show-me" pics.

I always have my Clie with me (not so my Canon or camcorder), and my grandson's antics are very spontaneous - perfect for both video and stills.

Anybody else?

At work: I have taken pictures of machine prototypes at work so that I can attach them in e-mails discussing particular components. We have two digital cameras that the ofice shares but I can never get one when I need it. Guessshould have expensed my NX and got reimbursed ;)

For home use: I have taken pictures of furniture I would like so that my wife can help in the decision. Plain fun taking pictures of the kids, the dog, my cars dashboard, the car in front of me.... just because I can.

This is not camera related but. I have loaded movies for the kids to watch in the backseat of the car. Man does it get quiet when they are entertained. I use an FM transmitter to play the audio over the car stero so they both can hear.

This unit has soooo many uses.

As I mentioned in another thread:

I use it in my work, to show photos of areas civil folk would not dare tread.

I use mine to bargain hunt. (I know, I'm terrible) I like to snap a shot of the item I want, the price, and then go online to see if another store has it for cheaper. I do this with books, dvds, and anything you can buy at costco (like video games). Sometimes you go browsing and you want something but you forget what it looks like or what the title of a book is.
I also like to use it to take snapshots of friends and such.

xMRG: That movie viewing setup sounds excellent. Nice idea!

Really, the NX is pretty damn close to being the perfect PDA.

You can also turn your stero into a PA system by launching Voice Recorder and starting a record session. The Microphone output is sent through the earphone connector. Try putting on your earbuds and start a recording session. Unfortunately the PA idea suffers from feedback issues. Drives the dog nuts.

I took mine NX-70 to a local Gentlemans Club. IT was quite interesting.

I use mine a lot for taking pictures of my competitor's products. It also comes in handy when I don't have my good camera, but I don't want to miss the snapshot (like a rainbow).

Here is a nother use: Check if IR devices are beaming or not.
Turn on your camera point it towards the IR source. If you see light pulses in the picture the IR is emitting. You can check your remote controls for functionality or if you are really bored you can check those fancy toilets with the IR sensors :o

BTW camcorders do the same thing.

OK, this one is a stretch......

If you have some backwards writing, like the word AMBULANCE that you see on the front of uhhh well ambulances (it reads forward when viewed through the rearview mirror). Well, you can hold such writing in front of you with the clie camera pointed at you and you will see it written forwards. I just did it. Wrote words while looking in the morror and used the camera to unreverse it.

The camera seems to know when it is rotated past 90 degrees so you need to have your clie opened in keyboard mode with the camera facing you and the words tacked to your chest.

I think I am done.

oops, morror = mirror

Just one more.

Best done while your Clie is in the cradle and charging. Use your Clie Camera as a rearview mirror. Catch people sneaking up on you or peering over your shoulder. Gets rid of that "someone is behind me" feeling ;)

Unfortunately to do that, you can't be concentrating on the computer screen.

Also, the device has to be sufficiently far away from you that you don't get in the way, and you have to make a conscious effort to actually go look to see the people coming.

When I was buying a new sofa. I sent the pics via Email to my girlfriend to help me decide. Then I sent a pic of myself and asked what I should pay for.
And of course all these handy dandy moments when you have a car crash.. Now the insurance must believe you

I've used it to take a snapshot of a whiteboard at a small meeting. Along the same lines, I have brainstormed on a whiteboard with another person and taken a snapshot of the finished concept to email to him...

I just like the convenience of having it when I need it. Example, I am currently apartment searching, I took photos of the rooms so I could figure out through the floorplans, and which rooms I could fit what into. I work for an apartment magazine, I can take photos of there models that are decent enough for the web, Low res is ok for Web, I have my regular digital camera for exteriors for the book which require Hi-res....but what is great is I can take the MS out of the camera and put it in my NX and have clients approve photos right then and there. I take photos of clients and aquatences for the phonebook, For fun related I take photos of my Godson, when we are out and I don't have my camera (NX never leaves my side) then there are of course those perverted moments that I won't get into, but I stay legal with heh heh hehh

I use it for my blog as well. I've got scripts set up so I can snap a picture, email it, and have it appear in my blog a few minutes later.

I use it a LOT to take pictures or short movies of my 2 years old baby. When I use a real camera, he is always stopping what he is doing to watch the camera. With the Clie, he just keep doing and I can record him :)

I have an NR, and even with that camera I use it all the time. Normally I use it for work to document something for someone who can't be there. I also use it to take quick measurements in a new theatre. Instead of having to draw complicated shapes on a piece of paper, I snap a picture of the area, and write the dimensions over the picture. It's so fast, and so much more intuitive when showing it to someone else (in fact I usually keep one of those on my Clie even if I no longer need it simply for those times when someone asks, "So what exactly does your Palm Pilot[sic] do that a regular one can't?"). Also, we had a funny-shaped stage for the last production of the show I'm working on, and the cast didn't get to see it for the first four weeks of rehearsal. The first time I toured the theatre I had taken some quick shots with my NR, so I cleaned them up and joined them together in Photoshop to create a panorama of the stage, which was really blurry but it was able to give everyone an idea of what it looked like. I had never thought to do that before, and just by luck had a few pictures that fit together nicely. I'm going to do that all the time now. In a week or two I'll probably be seeing our new theatre, and I really hope I've got my NX80 by then! :)

i'm always taking pics of the kids when we're out and about.: daughter on riding mower @ Lowe's, movies of the girls just being silly, my dad hamming it up in front of the giant Hulk hand @ the theater, sexy snaps of the wife when she's unaware... pics of things when window shopping (e.g. some lighting fixtures), etc. Sure, it isn't high quality. but it does the job, especially when no other camera is available.

USe it all the time to grab shots to show other people or wife "look what i saw today".

I have also been REALLY impressed by the quality of the sound recording from the little mic.

I use it at work to document problems with the equipment I work on. I maintain diagnostic imaging systems for a hospital change (CT scanners, X-ray, MRI, etc). I use it to document any hardware failures and that kind of stuff. I am anxiously awaiting the NX80 with it's low light mode. The NX90 was nice but the battery life was total crap.

I mainly use it to take pictures of funny things that happen during the day.

And sometimes I do this:

Launch the camera or move recorder app, doesn't matter which then keep your face trained directly on it and walk down a crowded streed and watch people wonder how you don't run into things.

cloudless:

VERY nice shots, and the perfect thing to explain why a small digicam that is always with you can be so useful.

Thanks for sharing...
