Hello... new guy here.

I have browsed/searched the forums in an effort to not repost the same questions, but this has only left me confused.

Many have mentioned that no card will work in the CF slot other than Sony's wireless LAN card (which will only give you Internet access when you are near a computer with acces, which defeats the purpose if you have a laptop, like me.

Then others have mentioned that you can buy a modem card to place in your NX70 to get net access... conflicting indeed.

Can anyone clarify?

I want to be able to access the net when away from home/office. Are these the only options:

-Connect a cable from my phone to my NX70
-Get Bluetooth for my NX70 and use a blue tooth phone

I'm on Verizon and hope to use the express network. If a CF modem does indead work, does anyone know if their Sierra Wireless Aircard 555 would work with the NX70?

Thanks... Sorry for the long post.

Yes, there are some dial-up modem CF cards that work, thanks to Pelaca!

The WiFi card is a different animal for networking and there is only the Sony that currently works.

No CF memory cards work as of yet.

The wireless air card maybe pushing it, as I have seen nothing on it.

You can use cable, infrared, and possibly bluetooth with a compatible cellular phone.

So, do you mean that the modem cards that do work (which ones are they?) are the kind you have to plug into a phone line? 'Cause that would still not meet my remote needs.

Also, regarding the IR connection to a mobile phone, does that work with any or most mobile phones, or is it only ones that have an IR connection? Also, what is the bandwidth on IR, is it slower that the BT MS (which I believe is only 115kbps due to its serial emulation).

Thanks for the info... please keep it coming

I am successfully using the Ambicom FC modem in my NX70, using the pelaca driver.

In looking that modem up on the web, it seems that it is a standard "telephone connection" modem. Which stil doesn't solve the problem of accessing the net from the road... away from the office/home.

If that is the only solution as far as modems go, can anyone tell me the requirments and speed of an IR connection between a mobile phone and NX70, since I am unlikely to fill the only MS slot with a BT stick.

Cnet puts IRDA-data which is a more recent implementation of IRDA at a higher speed than BT. Check out the column on the left.

So I guess, my main remaining question would be whether most phones can communicate with the IRDA port of a PDA, or would the phone need an IR port itself as well?

Thanks

I'm looking for a analog modem for my NX... might get one. I went to ambicom.com but couldn't find the FC card. Where can I find a price on it? What CF modems will work in the NX?

I picked up an Ambicom modem at Best Buy, right by the pda/wireless section. $69.99 I believe. Works great with the driver/cf utility I got from peleca.

Thanks iJITSU. I think I'll wait and see if the CF Slot gets more drivers, or see if bluetooth becomes an option if the new T series has it. Thanks again for the information.

Regarding this, I had tried a few options and had a few findings:

All you need is a phone with IR port (a must!) and GPRS capability, and of course, your phone operator must be able to support GPRS connection. The only problem with this is that connection speed feels rather slow, almost like connecting your computer to the Internet with a 56k modem. Phones used: Nokia 7650, 7210, 6100, 6800, .

Non-GPRS enabled phones don't seem to work, at least thats what I observed, maybe I didn't configure it right. Phones tried: Nokia 8250/8270, 5210, 8210/8290, 8310/8390.

This is just my observation, please correct me if I'm wrong :)

So far, I am only able to test this on Nokia phones as it is the only brand I have access to.

Then I guess my next question would be:

Does anybody know of a phone that is supported by Verizon that is Express network (1XRTT) capable and has an IR port?

Thanks

Two questions:

1) is the ambicon Modem a wireless CF modem?

2) when you have the wireless CF modem card attached, can you still use your CLIE in clamshell mode? HOw much does it hinder the screen ? - like can I still open the CLIE in clamshell mode all the way with the CF modem attached?

thanks.

1) No, it's a dial-up modem

2) Yes, with some slight limitation, but only with either a dial-up modem or Sony's PEGA-WL100 wireless 802.11B CF LAN card.

I don't know of any wireless CF modem, yet.

pymcliesource,

I use verizons standard data service (free, it just uses plan minutes) with a cable from supply net. But I belive you can connect to the high speed express net service using the same cable. I use the Kyocera 2235 phone. The connection with the free service is not the fastest but pda optimized sites work great.
You may want to consider this because you will be wireless with this setup.

I just bought the Ambicom CF56M-EZ modem and I would like to know what else do I need to connect my NX to a dial-up. I also downloaded Pelaca's driver but I do not know which one to install. Can someone list the drivers that need to be install?

Thanks.

The AirCard 555 is a PCMCIA card (aka PC card), not a CF card, alas.

Has anyone experimented with the pocket spider wireless modem found at [url]http://www.enfora.com ?
It looks like an interesting wireless possibility.

I am using a Nokia 3320 in a TDMA network here in Brazil that does not support GPRS or other wireless fast network.

It works and connects to my ISP @9.6k. It is slow but still good enough for getting email headers with ClieMail and messaging using Verichat.

I also got a Princeton modem from Brando, and it works great.

Rich, Thanks for the link. I was looking for this and couldn't find it. I will try tonight to see if works.

anyone else who is willing,
I have read at lenght all over cliesource trying to find out my best options to wireless browsing on my NX. I was wondering if using my cell phone with a ambicon modem and peleca driver would be so slow I wished I had not spent the money. I know these vague questions are annoying to the users who are more versed than I, but please be patient and try to re-member when you first started?

I have a motorola v60c (which can be traded for a better model if ness.) and verizon wireless. I know I read somewhere that it is possilbe, My question is just how slow is it. I know it says in the qoute that it is as slow as a 56k modem I wonder how slow the handheld loads the page is it similar to Isolo which (scrolls for me) at a snails pace and is just too slow. Any help would be very appreciated. Fancis

Francis,

The Ambicom CF56M-EZ is a land line modem, you can't use it with cellulars.
For the connection with the V60c, you only need this data cable and the driver is not necessary, the PalmOS support this connection by it self...
The max connection speed for this cellular is 14.4Kbps
You can buy, the cable, HERE (http://www.thesupplynet.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=6424) for $39.95

Is 14.4 so slow that I will wish I had purchased a new phone or waited for better opportunities like the future availability of more wireless networks?
I would like to access email and read cliesource will this connection be too slow? or has anyone aver tried it? Francis
