To all,
I am curious what the sucess has been in regards to compatibility of non-Sony memory sticks being used in Clies. I currently have a 760C and have thought about using Lexmark another, cheaper alternative. Its my understanding that Sony doesn't endorse Lexmark or other companies in regards to alternatives to Sony MS.
Let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks

I have had no problem with my Lexar Memory stick (in fact i think it is faster then my Sony memory sticks).

Not sure about the faster bit, but I also have no problem with Sandisk.

They're all the same.No matter whatever brand it is.They only vary from design to speed

which manufacture has the fastest memory stick, or is it based on size of the memory?

Thanks

Hehe...you mean lexAR, lexMARK makes printers!

What is the point of this thread? Are you asking if you can use non-sony memory stick? Yes of course. If you couldn't there wouldn't be non-sony memory sticks.

I post this as a request for information regarding other people experiences with non-Sony Memory Sticks. Asking this question to me is no more different than if I was thinking of drinking RC Cola or Pepsi or Store Brand Cola. LOL. I am attempting to evaluate the performance of other memory sticks is based on whether they are better, worse, or the same as Sony Memory Sticks.
I recall a while back where I thought I had seen a statement from Sony stating that Clie would not support non-Sony MS. I was wondering if that was because of technical support, or if Sony was being arrogant and refusing to allow cheaper MS to run efficiently.

Sorry for the babbling on.

Thanks

Oh, and I meant Lexar, lol, not Lexmark (points gun at temple and pulls trigger, *water)

I've got 2 Lexars, and they run fine. Having never used a Sony stick, I can't speak for any speed difference.

I have run a LOT of Lexar and Sansdisk memory sticks and my opinions are:

Sansdisk runs rebates better. I only get about 50% satisfaction from Lexar rebates.

Sansdisk seem a bit more stable. I have had several Lexar sticks mysteriously 'die' on me, and only one Sansdisk.

Both companies have replaced any sticks I have sent in for replacement- Lexar has responded a bit faster overall than Sansdisk did. Neither company was very responsive to e-mails on the subject.

I do not see any significant speed or other performance difference between the two. Personally, I would count energy use as more important than speed, but I have never bothered to really analyse either.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I could do some consumer reports research. Just not really in the mood to shell out full price for a memory stick when I could get one cheaper that is just as good from another company.

I will leave this open for discussion till either someone gets tired of seeing it or they have to create another post to carry it on.

Thanks for all your help.

I'm running a Lexar 128Meg stick (used for app storage) and the original Sony 8Meg stick (used only to store an extra RAM backup) on my 760c.

Haven't noticed any problems yet, but the Lexar is only a month old or so.

I say give em a try. I've been using SanDisk and Lexar on my cameras (SmartMedia not MS) for quite a while now with no problems.

I'm using a Lexar 128 mb memory stick in my sj-33. It was the cheapest one by a dollar or two at the store I went to . It's one of the clear purple ones with the activity LCD built into the end. So I have the Clié's orange activity light and the stick's green one blinking . :) So um, I'm colorful when accessing mp3s.
Seriously though, it works fine so far.

The only problem I've seen with the Lexmark... er... I mean Lexar MS is the issue with it "popping out" of the device with little provocation. I experienced this with little bumps to the device (when I had my 760C). The slightest jar would cause the MS to pop out. Not fatal, but incredibly irritating. I have not had the same problem with my Sandisk MS, but then again, I also changed devices to an NX-70V at the same time...
