Crap
i tried to change the number of columns on the program embark, a replacement launcher, and it overloaded the processor so that i cant use My SJ20, it will take a soft reset, and whenever i try to get to the home screen it just gives me a blank, and none of the processor lights are showing any sign at all. i need this for schoolwork, so does anyone know how to erase all info without messing with the battery, or to do anything from the preferences section Thanks in advance

Call 911.
But seriously, do you know what a hard reset is? Press the on button, use the stylus tool to press the back soft reset button for a few seconds, let go of the stylus tool and a scren should appear asking you if you want to erase all data. Press up or down for yes or no. Then hotsync and you will get all of your data back.
If this doesn't work refer to your instruction manual.

Look for "Hard Reset" in the index section in the manual if that doesn't work.

No,No,No!!! No need for a hard reset. Do a warm reset, which is up button + reset. This bypasses any startup logic. Go back to the default launcher settings and then do a soft reset. You should be good to go with all of your data still intact.

look for a hard reset in your manual then; this should fix the problem as all data and custom settings will be erased.

Warm reset is holding the up arrow while hitting Reset. That boots up your Clie in "safe" mode without hi-res support and stuff like that. Good for troubleshooting.

No, Sony didn't make it up. It was on my last Palm unit I had also. I'm guessing it has been around for a while, if not always.
