Is there a restriction on the type of MP3s that I can playback with the built-in APP on the NX series?

Here is my issue.

I used the voice recorder in LP4 mode to create a very long audio clip. I needed to clear some room on MS so I copied the WAV over to my laptop.

When I tried to play the origainl WAV on my laptop I got an error in WINAMP, WMP, et. all saying that I did not have the correct encoders. To make a long story short, I purchased QT Pro to export the WAV into a WAV format that WMP could understand. This worked ok ..... the export creates a 48kHz sample at 16bits. WMP plays it back OK ...

Now here is the problem:

I want to now take the WAV that was created by QT Pro and convert it into an MP3 so I can listen to it again on my CLIE. I used an app to convert the WAV into an MP3 (i think its called Cool Mp3 converter) - the MP3 plays back ok on my laptop. However, when I try to use MS AUDIO to play it on my CLIE I get a message saying that the "MP3 is corrupt".

Any thoughts?

Is the MP3 48Khz? The Clie MP3 player will only do 44.1kHz audio files.

yes. the MP3 is encoded with a 48 kHz sample rate.

Really, the NX pnly reads mp3's encoded at 44 kHZ? why?

*shrug* ask Sony ... another case of something that could have easily been done in a 'standard' compatible way but which has been restricted for whatever reason ... whilst the Clie is a good PDA, it seems full of such annoyances ... *sigh*

The answer is very simple, Sony wants to push it's ATRAC3 format, the MP3 only gets lip service!

As a long time Clie owner I've gotten more than my moneys worth out of buying Goldwave. Audible files, WMA files, low bit rate files, etc can all easily be converted to work on the Clie.
