Delete it!

I'd have to agree. Delete it. It packs more of a punch in the feature department but the numerous bugs and huge real estate give it a 3 out of 10 on the useful scale. The ohter browsers aren't as complete, but they crash 90% less on the average. Hell even the Avantgo browser crashes less!

It does not crash mine but and it browses nicely. However, it just takes up way too much room.

Y'know... I knew that Larry would have posted this answer even before I opened the thread <g>.

As for the original question, I find that keeping the cache at a minimum doesn't overtly affect the performance. Also occasionally set the cache to <disable> then manually delete the cache file (using Clie Files or similar). After doing this, reset the cache to your desired level in Netfront Preferences.

And for those anti NetFront'ers out there...... please point us in the direction of another browser which is HiRes+ (320x480) and features a Zoom Out viewing option.

Cheers, Rich

I use MemHack to put the NetFront cache on the Memory Stick. If you're going to do this, make sure you minimize the cache by deleting the cache first before copying it to the MS. The cache file should then be about 40 KB. There is a delay in initially loading the cache with MemHack but you save 1.5 MB of memory!

He-he, you know me too well:D!

I am still looking and hoping that something else will come along. The zooming feature just added to my frustration.

As the other fellow suggested that you may be able to reduce the cache, I don't see a way to move the 2 mb app out of RAM.

Both my brother and I hated it! This is not to say there might be some valid application for some. Casual browsing for us was just plain miserable. Most sites would start to load and them bomb. The more use it got, the worse it got. I switched to Blazer and it was much more user friendly, even though not Hi-Res+, it was more than adequate to use. WebProV is the HiRes app the Tungsten uses and it works okay, but only 320x320.

Hopefully, an NX version of JackFlash becomes available soon and we can move NetFront into Flash memory! BTW, I've had a good experience with NetFront even on this site (which is pretty graphics heavy.)

If you disable cache completly netfront works great and it never eats more memory that the app alone.

Hmm, it may work well for some, but not for others. I have noticed this anomaly on a few things as of late. Some can run PocketLink some can't, some can Backup Buddy others can't, some have no difficulty with the wireless card and for others it's been a nightmare.

Yes. This has gotta be true 'cause I can live with Netfront and the zoom is great too.

I really like its integration with ClieMail. Mail with links will start up Nefront and take you there. Sure beats cutting and pasting addresses.

I think the cache makes sense if you repeat visits to static sites, but otherwise it doesn't add value. Am I right with that?

I rarely get page to large errors when I have the cache turned off I can surf cliesource without a problem when I have it off as well. In the past I had to check the no images checkbox in settings to surf Cliesource. In fact most web sites come up fine when I have cache turned off.
Thats a good tip by the way (the mail with links tip) thanks.

Pocket link worked for me for a few minutes, now it just crashes my NX whenever I open it.

Thats a good tip by the way (the mail with links tip) thanks. I'm gonna try with cache off and see if things improve. I often get the Page Too Large when surfing this site with my NX. It'll be easy to tell the difference.

That kinda of integration, especially with the other Clie programs and ClieMail, aren't talked about much on this site. It's cool to record something in any of the different ways, and be able to within that Clie program be able to quickly e-mail the file to someone. No need to sync. :)
