Have owned this product for about a year . . . used it mostly for ebook use. I have a couple of "Direct Clips" that work well. Would like to know which ones others use that seldom "crash" while updating! :( Please list it as one should enter it into the URL window in "Clip Editor." I'll start this off with one of mine:

These are the ones I use every day:
Clie Planet (http://www.clieuk.co.uk/cwmobile.htm)
CNS (Cyber News Service) (http://www.cnsnews.com/cell.asp)
NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/avantgo/index.htm)
PalmInfoCenter (http://www.palminfocenter.com/palm/)
I also use The Washington Times daily, which is a scripted clip. I used to use USA Today (http://pocket.usatoday.com/palm/) , but don't now. It worked fine but the content was thin.
Someone posted a link to Small Sites (http://www.mergethis.com/smallsites/) elsewhere on the Source. It has an excellent collection of Avantgo site urls.
BTW, thanks for the weather link. I've been looking for one, and it works great!

I take it from the lack of responses that "web clipping" with HandStory is not an oft' used feature?

The Internet was hammered this weekend and folks may have had trouble gettin in. I had quite a few responses when I was looking for folks' experience w/HandStory, and all of them did web clips.

Web clipping is the main reason I got Handstory, but I only use 3 direct clips. They're for my local weather (Weather Underground -www.wunderground.com), local cinema listings, and The Onion. For everything else, I just right-click on an article that I want to read later and sync it that way.

Being a newly arrived HandStory user (recently a refugee from iSilo), thought I'd share a great resource of palm-friendly sites with about 550 urls.
First, pickup iSilox here (it's free)
http://www.isilox.com
Then go to this site
http://www.turcic.com/palm.shtml
...and download the WCC Ram version, which will work for our purposes.
What you end up with is an isilo list that you can mine for urls to palm-friendly sites, and do a copy/paste into HandStory's custom clip dialog. You're not uploading to iSilo, but need iSilox in order to read the list. The list was last checked 11/1/02, but no guarantee that everything's valid (the New York Times links don't work, sigh...but NYT is always moving these around, to stay true to AvantGo I guess...or to justify the $$ AvantGo charges them to be a channel).
Enjoy.
Gary
Update: Well, I spoke too soon! Tried one of the NYTimes links and this one works well:
http://archive.nytimes.com/nytimes-partners/omnisky/main.html
Also, here's a quick tutorial on how to do what I suggest about:
1. Download the two items mentioned and install iSilox.
2. Double-click on the wcc105.ixl file you'll pull from Turcic's site.
3. Scroll down to what you want, then double-click on the URL shown.
4. On the Properties box that comes up, right-click on the URL and choose Edit (the only option!).
5. Before you leave iSilox, click on the Links tab and see what depth is set for that particular site, and you can start with the same depth when you set up in HS.
5. On the next popup, right click again and you're ready to paste the address in Handstory's custom clip.

That's a good site...can also be expressed as www.wnd.com/avantgo as well. The iSilox doc mentioned above has about 50 global news sites and more than that for US national news...granted a lot of them are obscure, but informative!

Actually, in my case, it is the most used feature. I just noticed this link and will compile you a list. It would be nice of those that add links would also include recommended depth and image settings. Several of the ones I use have already been mentioned.:) A couple of big improvements Handstory could make (and yes I have submitted the request to them) would be to support logins and cookies and to include more automatic udate interval options, like hourly, weekly, monthly, bi-weekly. Daily and manual aren't really enough.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I have not had time to experiment with all these recommendations yet, but keep the links coming! I will get to them shortly! I did quickly try a couple and got "page not found or network error." Yet I can bring them up in my browser just fine! What's up with that! Thanks again! :)

I have AvantGo and Handstory both loaded on my SJ-20.
I am using Handstory for e-book reading but see that it has the ability to look at (images) and here people are talking about using its features to replace AvantGo's similar purpose.
I haven't registered Handstory yet, I've been using it about 5 days testing it out and plan on registering it Friday (payday).
How do I get Handstory to update when I hotsync with some of the pages you all have mentioned above? I can clip is seems and it converts, I hotsync and I have the page on my Clie.. but none of the links work... it's like it's just taking a text copy of the page and not acting like a webpage anymore.
Advice?

Does anyone know a real good stock chart webpage I can upload into AvantGo?
I've been taking the above advice about using iSilo and the WCC file and finding webpage addresses and then using those addresses on AvantGo and making custom channels through AvantGo.
I've been using stockcharts.com but you can't see the charts your asking for unless you go through the Form Manager and that's frankly a pain in the butt. I have three stocks (FRBSX, NBGEX, PTTAX) that I'd like updated every time I hotsync... anyone know an AvantGo compatible site that will let me do this conviently and easy like?
How about an entirely different app that tracks stocks w/ charts?
Thanks

When you register HandStory, you get the automatic updating feature...but it's limited...only autoupdates once in the morning. You can manually run updates pretty quickly by right-clicking the icon in the system tray, but you can't change when it does it's autoupdate...maybe in a future version.

Guys, these links are VERY good!
Here's a tip for those who may not know: One thing that I REALLY like about HandStory is that if I want to capture on-the-fly information while I am at my desk, it's a simple matter of just highlighting whatever text you want to capture and then click once on the HandStory icon in your System Tray. A dialog pops up and you can immediatly convert the clipboard contents to a DOC file. (No, this isn't a Web Clip, but it's very cool!) This works for ANY text that you can copy into the clipboard. If you are surfing on a web page, just right-click and select "Clip to Palm", and you are immediatly prompted to create a Web Clip.
Oh and in response to scotts:

Obviously, you use your Zip Code instead of the one posted, and if you set the depth on this one to "1", you will also get access to a Satellite map, Radar map, and national weather summaries! It kicks the size up to about 70K, but I think it's worth it.

I've gotten the same message on some links when I test them, but if I go ahead and register them and update them, many work. Have you tried that? Were you refering to the Hollywood.com site? If so, that site works great for me in Handstory.

Same here. I can, however, Clip to Palm on the page itself. Not convenient, but it works. I use 256 colors for it and a depth of 3 to catch all the radar pics.

I also never could get satisfactory results with Accuweather. Actually I was surprised that Clip to Palm worked. I even tried Accuweather with ISilo using the link at turcic's site and got exactly the same results as using Handstory. ISiloX generated error messages that it choked on the pics, but it still produced the same result as Handstory.

Just checked it and worked fine. Firewall? Using any configuration script in your browser?
Could be just intermittant problems....
But it's not a very good site...doesn't update properly. Two of the four cartoons are from today, one is from yesterday, and still FoxTrot is from 12/19.

OK, this is a shameless plug, but I enabled an AvantGo channel on my jimstips.com (http://jimstips.com) site. The URL is:

Set depth to "1" and you'll get the 20 latest postings (of which there are currently only 11.)

Can't get the radar images or satellite images from this site using either Handstory or iSilo. In Handstory it is possible to clip it to palm using the right click command, as Tanker_Bob discovered, but that isn't a suitable alternative.
