My Clie NX70V recently fell off my desk and suffered no apparent damage. However, after flipping the screen around to the position where you can use the keyboard, the screen went black. I figured that the machine had crashed or something and soft reset it. The PalmOS and Sony logos displayed just fine (in keyboard mode), but as soon as the Graffiti area popped up, the screen died again. Assuming a software problem, I hard reset to no avail. To summarize, the screen is useless in keyboard mode, but fine in the other one (flipped around and closed). Anyone know what's going on!?

It's known as the tablet mode. There is a harness that goes through to the screen, not sure if there is some kind of sensor or switch that may have been dislodged internally inside the hinge assembly. You could try a gentle tap, if not, best to exchange it or send to Sony.

Sorry to inform you, but you're going to have to call Sony and send it back for service.

I had the exact same problem where, after a hard reset, it was rebooting up to the Graffiti screen and then shuts down - blank!
(No way to fix it on your own - a software issue)

Sony will send you a small cardboard packet to ship it back to them for service and you will be w/o it for about 5-7 days.

Then you'll REALLY appreciate what an incredible device this is - when you don't have it and experience sudden withdrawal pains not being able to rely on it.

That's what I went through..Good Luck!

I too went through those pains when my screen image wouldn't flip into tablet mode. Lost my NX for a week while Sony replaced a harness. Finally got it back and GUESS WHAT?! It STILL won't flip the image. Called Sony back and will have to go through another week of withdrawals.

The problem is that I bought this PDA in Japan; the waranty says (in Japanese, maybe I'm wrong), that the waranty is only valid in Japan. If that's the case I'm never buying a Sony product again.

OTOH, the Sharp Zaurus and the Palm Tungsten just aren't as good as this PDA. I really like its huge screen!
