I am in the dilemma now. NZ or NX80, hard decision , isn't?

Not hard at all if you choose based on what you need... need! Then what you can afford. I saw nothing to make me want to give up my NZ... but maybe Sony will make another announcement soon...

i think nz90 is better.i do not think that nx80's camera will drain battery much less than my nz90.and there is no removable battery support on new one.

hard to tell until they come out, unless the camera startup is much faster and uses less battery

Get the one that's better for you, not what others think is better.

does the nx80 have a flash for the camera?
Jeffry

The NZ is still top of the line. It has built in bluetooth and 2.0mp camera.
The NX80 does have a flash but not as strong.

silly question, but how do you know the flash is not as strong (i didn't see it in the specs)

NZ90 is still king of the hill. Those new CLIEs remind me of a few words and phrases. Leftover parts, refurbished, rush to market or loose marketshare.

yeah, i can tell from the picture the flash is not as bright...
seriously, smaller does not necessarily mean it is weaker...
without specs, you can only guess (but since the unit is cheaper, it is a good guess!)

But the 32MB RAM in the NX80 is very appealing.

I do not want to offend NZ-users, but I personally think that the NZ90 is too big and too heavy. I had a NR70 and switched to the NX60 and was already annoyed by the CF slot on the backside. For me, a PDA has to replace my filofax, MP3 player, etc. which means that I want to carry it around. The NR/NX series still fits in the pocket of my jacket or shirt, but the NZ would have to be carried around in the purse. Not really handy.

From the spec. page, usable memory is only 16MB. I wonder that another 11MB where it is..

AAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHH
POS <5.1 can only see 16MB of RAM
Sony hacked OS to move heap memory (like pc RAM) off main RAM (like pc HDD) so we can get a full 16MB.
They have a 32MB chip in there cause is cheaper than a custom sized 20MB chip.
They are using POS5.0 cause they either like somthing in it or dont like something in POS5.2

Not offended here, for the most part I agree
There are three things that bother me with the NZ90 and causes me to use it less and less everyday:
1) Startup time for camera way too long - 6 secs
2) Inconsistnet battery readings that does not allow you to take a photo with flash even though it has battery left
3) Way too big for day to day use for myself
I am real tempted to downgrade to NX80, but not overly happy with specs of it. Was hoping it would blow me away that I wanted NX80 so bad

Does anyone know anything about the battery?

it is too thin to use removable battery.

I feel Sony kept the 200 mhz processor on the new NX's to mantain the flagship of the NZ. If Sony made the new Nx's Faster than the NZ then it would affect the sales of the NZ.

And they leave out Bluetooth from NX80 just to make sure...

somewhere in the specs it was mentioned that the nz uses a flash with a range of 0.5 to 1.5 meters, while for the nx80, maximum of 0.5 meters... also, the "flash" the nx80 actually uses is not called a flash by sony but a capture light

Well, the NZ90 is actually thicker than my laptop, and I don't like that at all.
So in my case, I'd have gone for the upcoming NX80.

Got a Dell Insipiron 600m, it is thinner, but of course a bit bigger in length..and only cost me $1200 not much more then the NZ90
bw, the flash on the NZ90 sucks. If you are indoors and have to use flash dont even bother, IMO why even bother to put the flash on at all.

The NZ 90 is thicker than my G4 powerbook as well.

In reply to your question the first thing you have to ask yourself is what features do you want in you new sony clie. Since I have an NZ90, its very clear that I think it is much better that the NX80.
If you dont need a 2megapixel camera, removable battery, a transflexive screen and built in bluetooth then the NX 80 will probably suit your needs.
Second is price. How much are you willing to spend. Its no secret that the NZ90 cost over 50,000 yen (im not sure what the exact amount is in HK dollars) and is beyond the budgets of a lot of potential customers. From what I can figure out from the information on the avalibility of the NX80 and NX73 for the North American market, the predicted release date is August 2003. The main issue here is that the estimated price of the NX80 will be around $799CDN while the NX73 will come around $699 CDN in order to compete with the Palm T/C and T/W series and make it slightly more afordable to the general public.
Lastly what ever Sony Clie you choose, try to get as much use and enjoyment out of it as you can knowing that it will be superseeded by newer models in 6 months. Since memory will be a major issues with the NX/NZ models it would be wise to invest in a memory stick pro to take advantage of the larger storage capacity.

What do you mean? Doesn't the NX-series use transreflective screens?

I say wait, unless you have money to burn. I am sure something else is in the offering soon, I am not alone in that opinion. Shoot, the NZ90 is a bargain to what I paid for my old HP 620LX and HP100 units. Everytime I turned around, it was another grand or so. We have not see the NX80 other than pictures and there could different model numbers for various parts of the world. We shall see, so relax and stayed tuned :)!

Is the PEG-NZ90 still the flagship
At the present time the answer is a "cautious" yes. In canada especially in Toronto I asked a number of sales associates at various Future Shop and Best Buy stores in the city about how well the NZ90/U was selling. The answer I recieved was "It depends". In some cases they were only selling 3/4 per month since they kept few units at their stores. Surprisingly customers who purchased the PDA did not return them or filed complaints about it.
With regard to sales in the U.S. , Cliesource.com has alot of information on insider sources at Sony Electronics America on this issue . From what I can tell from the NZ threads sales are mixed.
As I mentioned before the NZ90 has feature that the NX80 and NX 73 does not have. Sony also admitted that the NZ90 is targeted specifically for the high end market.
Although some Cliesource members speculate that the NZ90's form may be dropped by Sony because of poor sales and complaints of its design problems I believe that a new high res+ unit will replace the NZ sometime in Jan/Feb 2004 with OS6, 128Mb of ram, 400Mhz Intel PXA-255 cpu or better, GSM phone?, a 3.2-4 megapixel camera, high capacity battery, a better and slimmer design. The unit will be compeditive to the Palm T/C&W and slightly more affordable ( about $699-750 US).

I read several reviews on the NX 90 and looked at one at Best Buy. I ordered mine from a web site called New World Video Direct.com for $604, plus $14 for shipping. That is $182 less (no tax unless you're in New York) than buying in the store.
I had bought a Zire 71 but the pictures are fuzzy and I really like the Clie, except for the size and weight. But I must have my toys...
By the way, if there is a Costco near you, they have SD, MS and CF cards for pretty cheap. Check it out. I am new to this forum, so I have a lot to learn but I am looking forward to my NX 90.

There are several web-sites that sell the NZ-90 in the low $600 price range. Go to mySimon.com, pcmagazine.com, or zdnet.com and do a price check on the nz-90. Also, New worldvideodirect.com has it currently for $614.00 plus shipping. I ordered mine and it is due in a couple of days.

Do they ship to Hong Kong? I am afraid if the shipping cost is too high.
