This is the letter I wrote to the developer listed above and the reply:

Hello,
I am a clie NX60 owner and I was wondering if you would be
supporting the Clie any time soon. If you go to the forum at cliesource.com and search for the word sniffer you will see that there is a very sizable market waiting for a sniffer application like the one you are selling.
BTW I would be willing to be a beta tester...
Thanks,

I have considered supporting the Clie, however Sony has provided a complete and utter lack of developer information on their products. They do not seem to care if software from 3rd party developers functions on their unit, let alone takes advantage of their constantly changing always poorly documented system.

I'm sorry to sound so negative, but it comes from trying tosupport so many inconsistent Sony devices without so much as a word of reply from their developer support.

In short, I would love to support as many devices as possible, and perhaps someday Sony will change their policies, but until then there will be no Sony WiFi support.

Sorry....

This totally sucks I would really like a portable wifi device for sniffing....

This is pretty much true about everything. MP3, the strong IR port, etc. Its Sony's aps or nothing.

Its a real negative against Sony that they don't allow competition from 3rd parties.

Yet again we have a situation where Sony does not care about having being 'closed shop' - pity! It will learn its lesson soon just as the oethers like IBM did..hopefully it will be sooner than later

Won' be no lesson learning as long as we suckers keep droolin' over the latest Clie's an' forkin' over cash for their proprietary eyecandy!

I must confess that as a longtime Apple fan, I'm well acquainted with this sorta high-handed, cavalier attitude towards the users. Delightful products, incredibly poor customer relations.

yeah that's not a new line. Seems like Sony has been doing this forever.

Apple doesn't have the poor customer relations, at least, not from me experience of it.

They DO have the same sorta dismissive attitude towards their customers, though, esp the poor early adopters who get SCREWED in subsequent releases.

I read at PalmInfocenter.com that there is a new beta product that acts as a "sniffer". I have not tried it myself.

I got an NX-70V in February and immediately ordered the WLAN100. I'm a heavy duty Wi-Fi user and was really looking forward to the Wi-Fi PDA functionality.

Well, wrongo. Without "sniffer" or "NetStumbler" capabilities, the 802.11b card is basically useless. You have no awareness of wireless lans unless you know the specific SSID. And even then, you have no idea of signal strength, directionality, etc.

It never dawned on me that the NX-70V would lack those capabilities. And to have no scheduled roll out of those capabilities is really lame. I did not expect such a crippled implementation. If I worked for Sony, I would be ashamed to roll out such an inferior application.

I did not totally read the first post. I have my own wireless ap and have no need of this program at this time, but thought I might pass it along to those who may. I saw the post in passing and thought the new beta (v4) dated 5/27 might provide different support than the previous 3 versions.

Is this application for the PDA?

Yes. NetChaser by Bits n Bolts is one of the only Wi-Fi Sniffers for the PalmOS. Sony still is mum about it's Wi-Fi hardware so any chance of support for any Sony Wi-Fi device is pretty slim.
