has anyone tried using the HP48 calculator emulator (Power48) in his or her NX? were you able to get pass through the "rom image error" stage, and if so, how were you able to do it?
i mean, the emulator just works fine with the NX, and the error seems to be coming from the rom image; im still searching for other roms that may work...

The author of Power48 has made a prerelease version of the product that fixes this, and yes, I have an nx60 that has it working. I should tell you tat I jsut installed it, and I have not been able to play with it (ERrr -my clie is recharging now).
The thread is this one: http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=200&highlight=power48
and I will quote the developers' post:
"Greetings,
With regards to Power48, I really need to put a message up on the website concerning OS5 compatibility...
Anyway, I have a not yet released the OS5, ARM native version Power48 to the general public yet. The version on the Power48 website only runs on pre-OS5 machines. I'm still tweaking things a bit with the OS5 version. I anticipate it's release shortly, but if you can't wait, I let those who donate to the project have early access to prerelease alpha code.
Thanks!

Hmmm. are you using Beta v.90 at www.mindspring.com/~hildinger/Power48/. If so then it will not run on the NX series. You can contribute to the developer using PayPal and he will let you use his NX ARM processor beta version.
I must say it is very impressive. The emulator runs very fast! I remember the old days of waiting for my 48 to plot a simple graph. Not anymore. In addition, He has included the 48SX and 49G emulation. I hated my 49 because of the stiff keys but now have taken an interest in it again. It has much greater symbolic math capabilities compared to the 48SX and 48GX.
I could go on and I have only had it for a day......

is that so?
so i just contribute to paypal, and he will let me use the ARM-native code... hhhmmm... not bad! i really hate to lug around my hp48x wherever i go - and this has got to be the calculator on my clie!
so, after i contribute, how do i download the code? how much would a good contribution be?

You cannot have the code...
... that is, of course, unless you pay me the sum of ONE MILLION DOLLARS.... MMMUAA HAA HAAA MMUAAA HAA HA
[clearing throat]
Sorry, I was channeling Mike Myers for a moment there...
He e-mailed me a link to get the code and provided a password. The donation amount is up to you I don't think he set up any guidelines. Remember that this an OS5 ARM native alpha so I am sure he still has testing to do but it has worked well for me so far. I am going to try and load some libraries tonight.
You can e-mail him at power48support@mindspring.com.
heh, the man speaks. ;)
Thanks Robert, this is too cool!

Killer! Just loaded MetaKernel. Now I gotta get ALG48. I can't seem to get used to the 49's keyboard.

yikes...
since im not a paypal member, i still have to wait for my member number that would appear on my credit card statement... bummer... well, that being the problem for living outside the usa... bummer...
I have been using the MathUPro from creativecreek.com for over 3 years, and continually get free updates (I'm a registered user) - I'm a math degree (never use it), but I did get hooked on RPN calculator language using the HP41 way back when, but I do like having both a HP48 (I have the original version I bouth in 1990), and the one on my PDA - works great - not an HP48 simulator, but close enough - I guess you can fit all the keys when the virtual keyboard goes away. Thanks and hope this works.

Goodness gracious, Power48 is EXACTLY what I'm looking for!!! This program is excellent. One of the reasons that I am glad I bought a 320x480 CLIE.
If I donate, can I expect a quick response?

LOL, I just fired off a donation, and I've already gotten a response for Robert! People, for the love of all that is good, SUPPORT THIS MAN! People like him are why PalmOS will remain on top.
Just downloaded the HP48 program, hope it works on my NX60 - and I obviously don't mind supporting program writers - when I consistently use programs I register them - so please support your program writers - ....

The Power48 version on the website doesn't support OS5, unfortunately. Mr. Hildinger (creator of Power48) has been sending preview copies to those who have donated. Trust me, it's well worth the money! Especially when you consider that it successfully emulates nearly $400 worth of HP calculators...

I've been using the flash version of an HP from www.shockinsider.com
works fine AFAIK, but by all means support the programmer if you like his product (I hate cheap a$$es)

Just got the ARM version of Power48. I have to agree with all the reviews. This program is great! I use my HP alot at work and this program now reduces the number of things that I have to carry around with me. It also increases the number of cool things that I can do with my NX :)

I've been using Power48 for quite a while, and just started using it again on my NX after making a donation at his site. The 49g emulation is cool, even though I still primarily use the 48gx. He is very responsive and has put a lot of work into this program. Someone that can do this kind of work deserves our support. Just my two cents.

that's just it... id really want to give my support, and at the same get to play with the new ARM-based Power48...
unfortunately, with being a PayPal member for only two days, i still have to wait a month for my credit card bill to arrive with my member number... :(
are there any quicker ways to get a donation in, though?

clie_wannabe,
I'm sorry the donation process is such a pain in the *** for non-US locations...
I can give you a physical postal address if you'd like and you can send the donation that way if you think it'll get here faster than your PayPal ID.
I don't know of any particularly easy way of transferring money between Japan and the US. I suppose you could set up a direct bank transfer, but I think the service fees would render the point moot.
If you have any alternate ideas about how to do this, I'll certainly entertain them!

Although I am an engineer, I've never used an RPN calculator. Out of curiosity, I downloaded the beta version of Power48 from the web site..
I don't care if it's not ARM-based or not. I just wanted to try out RPN calculators...
Unfortunately, I've got the "invalid ROM file header" during boot up.
I guess I'll need to wait...

UI018397:
You had the same problem I had. I'd bet you are running OS 5.0, right? I had to contact the developer ( power48support@mindspring.com ) and after making a donation, he sent me a zipped copy of the prerelease verson for my NX60, and so far I am quite happy.
I think Power48 has the physical appeal of the HP family of calculators, adn the added potential of exploiting the 200mhz ARM processor could take this emulator farther than the original HP 48 or 49 - in terms of speed at least.

Yes, I am running it on my NX.
I suspected the problem was ARM-related.
Oh well... I'll wait until Robert release Power48 on the web... Like I said, I've never
used RPN calculator. I guess I am not much =>
Thanks for your response.
What have people been donating - I don't want to go to high or too low. However, most shareware registration fees are around $10-$20.... thanks for the input.

are there any quicker ways to get a donation in, though? I've used c2it.com as a Paypal replacement and had really good luck with it. I'm not sure how well it works outside of the States, but it's worth a look.
