View Full Version : NZ is nothing more than a repackaged NX

Basically, the NZ, has a better camera and keyboard in a bigger package, but that's it! The NX, I think has more advantages and the specs are the same. So what is the problem?

I guess the integrated Bluetooth doesn't matter? Or maybe the new Picsel Viewer app? Or the cradle with the AV output or the USB output for printing docs? Or maybe having a removable battery isn't a big deal (Lord, knows no one b_tches about battery life...)? Bigger, more tactile keyboard keys?
Yea, it's the same....
C'mon Larry! You got to be kidding right?!!
Then don't buy it. No need to express your blatant jealousy

hello you can get Picsel Viewer once it is released LOL----that is not a good reason to get the NZ hahahha-----anyways I dont have a bluetooth setup----if it had Wi-Fi built in then we would be taking----for that I stay with my NX and my 4MP digital camera :-)

Everyone play nice in the sandbox or else. Come on... is a Sony and its name is Clie. Some of you act like it is HP and iPaq... if I hand the money I would have one in a heart beat..

Larry didn't say that the NZ had no advantages, only that in his opinion, the NX had more. And I think the main point is that the NX is a great device and holds it's own against the NZ, so people should enjoy what they have.

Actually, he missed quite a few things.....:D
I have an NX. The NZ looks nicer to me. We'll see when it comes out ...

NX use to a great pda with a with a sub par camera. Now, NZ is a great camera with a sub par pda <-- size issue.

I received NX70v for Christmas and I think it is a great PDA.
I agree that NZ is just a repackaged NX and I think that the add-on found on NZ are not enough to let me prefer that PDA (and I have no need not be jealous, believe me..).
1) 100g more: better NX
2) new camera: if I want to take photos I take my 3.2Mpixels digital camera(I think camera on NX is just for fun)
3) integrated bluetooth: well, it could be a real plus
4) battery: well, still not enough
5) software: I can get any software I want for NX
6) other stuff.....well, still not anough
What I'd like to see on NZ (or new clie in general) ?
Integrated Wi-Fi / GPRS, AV output ON the PDA (not cradle), that could be the real difference.
At least for me ;)

I think you're all wrong. The most well thought out PDA of this series is still, in my opinion, the NR. But as you all know, opinions are like ***holes, everybody has one.:D :D :D :D :D

The NX without the CF hump = Beaut.
THE NR is the PDA I was considering... but eh I could live with a useless :( CF slot.
UNLESS by some miracle $800 dollars fall into my lap... I am not even considering the NZ.
MY NX is SO MUCH fun! :D

Picsel is NOT going to be downloadable.
Bluetooth setups cost about $30 to make a network in your house... not much at all.

Are you sure the NZ is in the PDA category? It seems to me it's almost a laptop.. :) Looks interesting.. but I just got my NX for christmas and have no complaints yet.. I also will be awaiting it's launch to see what I really think..

I'm disappointed that Documents To Go is not included on a top-of-the-line Clie. Getting Picsel Viewer isn't an advantage since you can't edit Word and Excel docs with it. Seems like a downgrade in this department.

I'll support the NR here, despite how ridiculous the thread is. The NZ is the next product in the SAME LINE as the NX...why are all the NX'rs freaking out like Sony is stealing their first born? But, if I buy all of the pro NX arguments ie; NX is better because it is smaller, camera quality isn't important...it's just for fun, bluetooth is irrelevent, etc...then go buy an NR. It comes without the useless cf hump=smaller, it has a camera..., battery life is better than the NX...the only place where the NX has it beat is with the voice recorder, and coming from an ex-ppc user, they're a pain in the a## in my opinion. Until some developers start coming out with some serious OS5 software, which I don't believe they will...NR is a Camry, NX is an Avalon, and the NZ...I don't know, one of those bloody Rav4's or something. Just buy a pda and enjoy it. Half the people who are complaining about the NZ are going to wind up buying one anyhow, and I'm sure they'll have legitimate gripes then. And, well, the other half...they're not going to buy one, so what's the problem.
Cheers,
Matt

Matt,
That is funny but you are right on! The NR group was full of NX hate/complaints before the NX was availble. Now the NR group is quiet because many users have apparently switched to the NX. Now all the NXers complain about the NZ.

i pre ordered a nx for about 550
i can pre order a nz for ab out 700
if i could have preordered the nz about 4 months ago.
i would have.
i was pissed when the nz came out because, the thought,
just the thought that someones clie could be bigger than my.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
(i think this sums up most people who bought the nr-x-z serise.)
considering your pretty damn hardcore to ditch over 500 on a palm in the first place.

The NZ, for $200 extra, brings you:
-2MP digicam w/ flash (!)
-Bluetooth
-Enhanced cradle w/ AV output (!)
-Removeable battery
Considering that a Bluetooth Memory Stick alone will cost you nearly $200, I don't see the 'shame' in the NZ being a 'repackaged NX.' If you think about it, practically every OS5 Clie thus forth will be a 'repackaged NX' in some ways. Who give a f**k?
Might as well throw in the fact that you can't find an NX/standalone 2MP camera combo that will be anywhere near as small, integrated, or convenient as the NZ90. Goodnight.

You know..... say you sell your NX70v for $400... you're going to be paying about $400 more to get the NZ. I'm about to go buy a $400 3.2megapixel sony cybershot dsc-p7 camera next week. It can take video too. Just a thought.

Back to dual device arguments again.... Thats the whole point of the NZ; integration...

...And I can take advantage of my Best Buy warranty and have a brand new NZ on the day of release for $200 extra (or less). Let's look at this objectively.

Perfect summation. Damn few of them have had the guts to say it: I just bought this Nx, and now there's a new one. I'm no longer cool. These were all the same people that whined about the Nx endlessly and bought one anyway. One poster whines about the NZ being a useless brick in one thread - in another he talks about saving up money for it. Can't remember his username for sure but I think it was Hypocrite :D
I think that finally they're realizing that their argument has gotten stale and old and we'll see some of them very quitely converting. As to the rest of them, they'll move onto MS's to whine about when they finish off on the NZ. Good riddance and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

For 800 bucks, I'd rather buy a laptop.
I love my NX... we bonded together and I cannot complaint about it. So there is a new friend coming to town. NZ would not do anything for me except that I can use it for exercise. The NZ would not replace my lovely NX but I see an advantage for those of you who workout everyday. Now if you purchase two of them, you will be able to use it as a dumbells in your workout. That is something I could not do with my NX ;)
okay, bottom line, we will all eventually upgrade to a new PDA in the next 1 to 2 years - and the NX60, NX70, the NZ, the FX, etc will all be obsolete in 2 years, so what's is the problem? We all like our toys, so let's enjoy them, then take out 9mm out and use our current PDA for target practice in 2 years - oh yeah, I have to put mine on Ebay for $50 - but you know, I am collecting a carton of used PDA's and I haven't had the heart to put my original palm, my newton, my 2 handsprings on ebay yet - oh, should I put my cell phones on there too - no my kids enjoy playing with the old cell phones too much - heck they even recharge them and they makes sounds - at least there are no phone charges.

I bought my PalmPersonal in 1997; my Palm V in 1999, my N710 in 2001, and now I got my NX in 2003. I donīt care if something else comes to market, and that I am not "cool" anymore.
I am just enjoying what I got. Be happy with it and donīt complain about the NZ. If you do complain, then assume you want one and save the $$ for it. We all know Sony, and they will probably have a dozen of even cooler Clie releases during 2003.

Good heavens, I just went from an NR to the NX. The camera kicks butt (AND it swivels!), the video capabilities, I'm still playing with and discovering, but kicks tail as well. As for the Wi-Fi slot, it's not that bad and interesting things are in the planning stages for it. As for the NZ, I'll wait untill the darn thing looks less like a brick and then perhaps, upgrade.
Regardless of what's coming out (and something will ALLways coming out, Sony cranks out PDA's so fast, at this rate...), I am so HAPPY and look forward to discovering my NX.
Attitude has a huge impact on saticfaction. :D
