I know what you mean. I'll tell you, I felt more worried about breaking my old Palm Vx than the NX. The problem with the hinge, is that it's tougher than it feels, only slightly. Moving parts are always a point of concern to me. No matter what PDA you use, it will never be sturdier than a Gameboy. Why do toys last longer? :(
I think it will. Mine have all lasted a solid year. Get an extension on the warranty if you are very concerned.

Well, I plan to get at least 2 years out of mine. I am quite satisfied with its features and don't see upgrading, and I got the aluminum case which has saved it from a lot of damage. Out of 13 falls and 8 falls onto (stupid ice), rainy days, extreme temps (-45 deg. C - stupid wind) I have only one noticeable damage and that is a slight rattle inside near the top. Everything works fine, at least hardware related. Not even a scratch on the actual device, although the aluminum case has some dents, scratches, deformations, looks 3 years old and its only actually 4 months old.
I use the twist a lot, swap mem sticks and cf cards a lot (testing my programs - simulator is too slow on my comp)
All in all, I feel it should be able to withstand a couple years of normal usage.

I don't think we will use our PDAs for far more than a year at this "technology breakthrough" time. Yes, we ever use our palm for more than 2 years (or even maybe 3 years) whenever palm got no competition.
It is for sure that our clie at the moment still serve us for basic PDA needs, but how about the multimedia & connection capability? I don't want to talk about "the greatest PDA that I should have" but I have no other options but to upgrade for the sweetness from 200 mhz to 400mhz, from 128mb to 1gig (MS and CF).
So whenever the new nx replacement comes out, I will jump for it ;-)

The way I see it.. The old Gameboys were much less complex than our twist and fold Clies. Fewer parts to fail, so the devices last a lot longer.

With new technologies coming out all the time, its difficult to see how the CLis will be any different in being up to date. I always say it depends on your needs - what do you do with the Clie? If it works and gives you all that you need, so what if there is another model out there. As it has been said your PC is out of date as soon as you leave the shop - PDS are not different

my nx70 (in carry case) fits perfectly into my GBA carry case... now i don't have to worry about it getting knocked around in my backpack. and the headphones and spare mem stick fit perfectly into the side pouch (designed for link cable & cartridges).
i'm getting real good value for money....

Be careful with this case though. Be sure to let your NX on tablet position when you open it. Why? The side where you are supposed to put the string can be scratched awfully. That's what happened to mine. I hate seeing those two grooves caused by the case.::mad:

They are actually pretty tough little units. My current Clie is coming a year old soon and it still looks and acts fine, and, I ride 'em hard and put 'em up wet!

I think that the unit will last much longer than my desire to use it. I see myself upgrading because of technological advances far before the unit no longer working.
wow, without notice my NX is soon to be reaching 9 months already since the 1st release in Japan in mid OCT2002. I think it will last me at least another year, just depends on your needs & demands. To me the NX is already state-of-the-art powerful machine.
Here I am being able to take photos & movie clips, even MP3 when my main point of having it was just to keep track of my regular expenses, schedule and ToDos stuffs.
I can't still believe how I managed to use my N710 (not even OS4 yet & 256 color display) for over say..... 2 and a half years? I knew there was a desperate disire for the new stylish Clie as I see each new model being released. (1st the T655 thin & OS4, then the NR70 with camera) but each time I walk into the Sony Shops I just know in the back of my mind that I don't really need them, and force myself to walk away from desire.
